Best cinematic use of Lynyrd Skynyrd's Free Bird EVER.

I loved every bit of this blood-soaked film all the way through the blaze of glory at the end.
No, not a horror movie, but one of the best road-hard exploitation thrillers yet. Outside of replacing Karen Black with Leslie Easterbrook, the casting couldn't have been much better.
Ken Foree, Danny Trejo, and Michael Berryman are all cult favorites. The acting was top-notch and the one liners and dialogue between some of the characters is hilarious as shit.
Can't wait to see what the unrated DVD has in store.

This may be the end of the line for the Fireflies, but Rob is working on another film project. An animated movie based on his comic book El Superbeasto, although he is not directing, or writing the screenplay, so I don't know how that might pan out. We'll see.

All I can hope for is that Lions Gate or someone continues to give him a decent budget and let him wright and direct his own films, because the man really has the talent.

Word. Great use of southern rock in the film period.

I saw it last night and thought it was an awesome film all the way through though I was a little sad at the end.

Me and my friends were the only ones in the theater cracking up through the whole thing...

When Freebird started up, I just started clapping...it was beautiful.

Agreed. The dirty south in the 70s.

I got a bootleg copy this weekend, and I watched it again last night. I swear it just keeps getting better... Anyone else pick up on the Star Wars references? Charlie Altamont = Lando Calrissian...

DVD Release date: November 8th.

Lions Gate Home Entertainment will release the film in separate R-rated and unrated editions, each featuring audio commentary by Zombie and actors Sheri Moon Zombie, Sid Haig and Bill Moseley. Other bonus materials will include deleted scenes, footage from "The Morris Green Show" and "Captain Spaulding's Monkey Fried Chicken" TV commercial (both seen in the film), Otis's "Home Movie," a "Captain Spaulding Christmas" spot, blooper reel and music videos. imo i can't say i enjoyed devil's....rob is a fan and he makes fan films,so i can't accuse him of ripping off this or that..i do think in time he'll do something that will blow me out of the water, just not yet...

it's not a bad addition to the "road exploitation action" film genre(in my opinion i also don't think it's a horror film, even though it is nasty at times),but i enjoyed race w/ the devil a lot more(cults,rv's, & rattlesnakes),which is one of the models for this type of film...

however this is better than his first as i was happy to see him use a storyline this time or more of a plot anyway.. i was also glad to see them take off that damn makeup( it looked like they also dropped a couple of useless characters)and i find it interesting that he makes cold blooded kilers, real pieces of shit so...loveable and sympathetic...

all in all too much southern rock(which if you despise like i do,it really makes it hard to sit through at times, but i think he was going for that audience),too many useless music montages, and too much of sheri's ass(she's a very pretty woman, but if all she has going for her is her ass...well maybe she should do movies w/ misty mundae)...

Bump. Since it is out on DVD now, and I finally got around to seeing it. First, let me say I loved this movie. Even though I do not personnally dig the music he selected, it fits perfectly with the tone of the film. Actually some of the best examples of music working with film that I have seen. Right up there with Wes Anderson. Bravo.

The DVD release is super rich with goodies too. Deleted scenes (very nice), 2 commentary tracks I haven't even dug into yet, and a 2 hour making of movie that takes you from day one to wrap. Super cool.

Sure, there were some things I did not like. Some of Otis' dialog was really off in this movie - Tarantino-esque. It just did not seem to fit with his character. And the whole Cloud City/Lando Calrissian subplot was pretty fucking lame. But that's all minor shit. I tend to nitpick and play armchair director quite a bit. Overall this was one hell of a blind buy, and one hell of a movie. Can't wait to get home and watch it again!

Thanks for all the recommendations. I'm glad I just went ahead and bought this instead of wasting 5 bucks on a rental.

Wealth of deleted scenes? No. But the Dr Satan cut is in there. Nice and worth seeing. My guess is that it was only removed because Zombie chose to keep him out of the coherent continuity, because it really is a glorious/goryous scene.

The zombie commentary is a snoozefest, the cast one is much better once they get warmed up. Sadly, most of the questions I was hoping to have answered were just glossed over if mentioned at all. Like Karen Black? WTF was she thinking? Her role was so much meatier in this film. All for the better I guess, as the new Mother Firefly kicks ass.

karen black couldnt act serious enough so she wasnt even considered. rob answered that on the old devils rejects board.

dr. satan is addressed in the commentary and in the interviews linked off the website. since the last half hour (everything post coffin drop) in house of 1xxx corpses is now considered to be that last chicks trip before dying (she died in the casket supposedly) dr. satan seemed silly to rob.
they shot a scene (thats in the movie, just camera angles cut away) of them wheeling him out in a strecher. they shot that death scene on the DVD
but it was decided that instead of keeping things in the world the fans know... and love.. it seemed redudant to include dr. satan because he was too cartoony and there wasnt proof he was still alive.

it boiled down to keeping the movie as serious as he could, every draft supposedly got rougher.

dr. satans backstory is still on the devils rejects website in the bios of the rejects themselves.

dr.satan will be in the animated movie rob is doing.
i also am willing to bet a cult of dr.satan movie will be made, ive never read anything that would prove it, but when the movie was in preproduction rob kept talking about how much dr.satan lore he had created............... or that could be what became the animated thing, el superbeast or whatever the fuck he ended up calling it.
