"In response to overwhelming demand, Lucasfilm Ltd. and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment will release attractively priced individual two-disc releases of Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Each release includes the 2004 digitally remastered version of the movie, as well as the original theatrical edition of the film. That means you'll be able to enjoy Star Wars as it first appeared in 1977, Empire in 1980, and Jedi in 1983"

It is, however, a limited release, from Sept 12th to Dec 31st. Looks like Sir Diddy just got his Xmas present early.

My widescreen unfucked-with original trilogy videotapes...Finally obsolete :shock:

Didn't Lucas say just a couple of years ago that the "Special Edition" of the trilogy was the definitive version and he would never release the original theatrical release cuts EVER again?

Hmmm....

And next year Star Wars comes to Imax screens in 3-D. With home theater systems and monster Hi-Def televisions becoming more affordable an HD DVD version of that can't be too far off...

yep
hes also claimed the parts of the originals were destroyed in the process is you watch the special edition VHS tape documentaries....

The revelation has provoked anger among Star Wars fans, expressed on such Internet sites as http://www.thedigitalbits.com, and http://www.hometheaterforum.com. VideoBusiness.com quoted Lucasfilm spokesman John Singh as saying, "We hoped that by releasing the original movies as a bonus disc, it would be a way to give the fans something that is fun. We certainly didn't want to be become a source of frustration for fans."

I know they released the original Trilogy in widescreen with THX sound on laserdisc in the mid 90's

JC, are the copies of the laserdisc rips you got from Sir D in letterbox?

As far as the issue with the DVD. This is what it says on the description for Ep IV (widescreen)
