YOU GUYS ROCK

Post by X »

It seems to have already been done by a few, but i as almost a proud parent havvvve to say thanks to everyone who came out last night, everyone who complimented anything done in the evening, and anyone involved with anything in the evening.

You guys truely came through, and quite frankly you guys rock it out.

If you have ANY criticisms whatsoever, please let me know, the owners/management want to know how they can make this evening even better for the 20th. Also any "hey this was particuarly cool" comments as well......
I'm a big bright shining star......

No, YOU rock.

I really liked your set and wish you'd had more time to spin. It seemed like it was only about 30 minutes?

I guess we left kinda "early" - around 12:45 - but damn it, we were there.

Thank you guys, LOTS!! I had a fabu time! I loved the music(even the scary 80's tunes like MC Hammer, hey one must accept all that happened in the 80's to better ablely deal with and overcome the trauma). Bone as always was rocking at the spin table, and I must admitt that I was suprised and quite pleased with X's set. I'm really looking forward to the 20th. One request though......uuummm I don't know if you have told the sound guy that as a whole most of us are not deaf. So just because you play it ridiculously loud does not mean more people are gonna dance. I was still screaming at people way in the back at the pool tables for them to hear me and that treble distortion sent me home with a headache. And I will be damned that if I am going home from a club with a headache it had better be because of the too much alcohol I was drinking.

Oh yes and one more thank you to the people that dresssed in 80's garb. Aaahhhh shiny lame, man am I gald that's not a fashion staple anymore.

"2 Legit 2 Quit" was released in '91.

I just don't think kitschy stuff like that really fits the theme... I mean, "retro night" doesn't have to mean "laugh at bad songs from our past" night... (though I'm sure I'm in the minority with this opinion)

There are enough good 80s songs to be played without resorting to the bad ones. :D

Did anyone get around to playing "Pretty in Pink" by Psychedelic Furs? That's crucial stuff there.

Was anyone dancing to "Too Legit to Quit? During the hip hop portions of the night i was wandering around elsewhere.

I'm not a huge fan of the Kitch factor but I have to admit it works to a degree. Take "Backy got Back" and "Humptdy Dance". Now to me these are just abhorant, I mean they are just beyond Kistchy. But they both have a good record of getting people on the floor. it's quite possible that my kistch is their fun pop song. I mean I love "Safety Dance" and "99 luftballons", these are just fun songs to me. I know quite a few people who are as equelly repulsed to these songs as I am toward "Baby Got Back" and "Humpty Dance". To me it's fun stuff, to them it's horrid kistch.

To me what it boils down to is the rather effective mantra of "What works is what works." If playing the occasional cheesy favorite gets people to smile and shake their booty thing then it needs to be played.

But "Humpty Dance" is a good song. It's a wonderful parody. And the people who like "Safety Dance" and "99 Luftballoons" like them, too - they're not just laughing at them.

If anyone wants to admit that they actually think "2 Legit 2 Quit" is a good song (and not good because it's funny), feel free to say so... :)

That's what I meant by "kitsch value" - playing songs that almost literally no one there actually likes (but again, I know I'm in the minority with that opinion, so I'm not arguing such songs shouldn't be played, just discussing).

See I can't see "Baby got Back" as a parody. I think it is a legit statement on how much Sir Mix a Lot likes round butts. I'm reading the lyrics right now and I just don't see the tongue in cheek (No not THAT cheek :P) It's got a sense of humor to it for sure but I don't hear parody myself.

That's the problem with song opinion though. What you see as a great parody song I see as a lunaticial song about big butts. I don't care for MC Hammer iether but it's quite possible that someobdy last night really diged him.

Last night was awesome! Thanks to everyone who made it happen!

Did you get enough sleep, CD? I was talking about "Humpty Dance", which definitely is a parody, not Sir Mix-a-Lot's "Baby Got Back", which definitely isn't a parody but I think is a good song.

Last night rocked... I would agree that the music was too loud, but I'm a dummer and probably couldn't hear a dumptruck driving through a Nitroglycerine plant... X and Bone you both kicked major ass... And the music from 'The Blue Oyster Bar' was the icing on the cake, Thank you Barronightmare for doing the 'Drunk Guy/Sober Guy Tango' with me, and letting me lead... Glad to see that everyone was having fun, and hopefully the 20th will be just as cool if not better! :D

If you are going to quibble on what is acceptable for 80's music, I will remind you that HAIRBANDS also come from the 80's.

I would enjoy more of that type of music, because it is what I enjoy and am more comfortable listening too. I don't care for the hip-hop or some of the English music from the 80's, but it all reminds me of a time that I had no worries, no bills, and no baggage.

However, 80's means 80's and if you have to suffer through a little MC Hammer.....then you will suffer through it. Take that time to go outside and get some air, or use the restroom.

I think the guys did a great job playing many of the requests KGB had and catering to those "mundanes" as well too.

I have one request. Air conditioning or large fans.

Thanks again Bone and X.........it was a great time.

But, again, MC Hammer was early 90s.

If people want to hear early 90s music at 80s night, that's fine by me. I'm just stating a fact that MC Hammer was not 80s.

Nine Inch Nails' Pretty Hate Machine, however, was released in the 80s, so I'd like to request the cover of Queen's "Get Down Make Love" from the "Sin" single.
