Songs you Won't hear me play at Sanctus

If it's not covered by one of those other categories, you should probably talk about it here. Be nice.

Songs you Won't hear me play at Sanctus

Post by Arkady »

As requested by many of you, I am attempting to draw attention to the more modern music selections that for some reason seem to totally go un-noticed when the masses begin to complain that we play the same old shit all the time. Therefore, the following is a list of songs I that I will not be playing at Sanctus. The list is not complete and I will editing it as time goes on I am sure.

Depeche Mode - Personal Jesus
Revolting Cocks - Do you think I'm Sexy
Bi God 20 -Like a Prayer
Type O Negative - Black #1
Consolidated - U Suck
Garbage - #1 Crush
Prince - Erotic City
Dead Can Dance - Ubiquitous Mr Lovegrove
David Bowie - Hearts Filthy Lesson (alt mix)
NIN - Ringfinger

Again, I am hoping that by doing this, folks will notice the newer tracks that we have been spinning. The bottom line is that We the DJs are willing to do what it takes to help make Sanctus the Event that it once was but we can not do it with out you. Please, bring yourself and a friend and let's show Bluecats that we are still worth their time!

Thanks!

I spoke to Michael the other day and he said he's been dropping a few songs too. He's probably already not playing these, but there are a few songs I could go without hearing at Sanctus ever again...

Nena - 99 Luft Balloons

David Bowie - Magic Dance

Dexys Midnight Runners - Come on Eileen

Men Without Hats - Safety Dance

Siouxsie and the Banshees - Peek-a-Boo

Marilyn Manson - Sweet Dreams

Charles Gray - (The Rocky Horror Picture Show) The Time Warp

Danny Elfman - This Is Halloween

Also, I would have to request playing new stuff like

The Birthday Massacre:

thanks! :)

I have to say this and take it for what it is worth, but never is a long time. Some of those are really good songs and some tend to fill the floor. I'm not saying that you have to play them but never is a very long time.

Never is not a long time considering I have heard these songs over-played regularly for the past 10 years now. I could go the rest of my life not hearing any of them ever again. Seriously. I loathe each and every one of those songs because of that.
If they still pack the dancefloor that's really sad, especially seeing as how hard it is to get people to dance to new music that is played. Therefore, being a great DJ is not an easy act to balance.

Sorry, I'm in one of those moods today.

Just trying to be helpful. :)

OH and lets not get stuck playing only new stuff either. Personally I am a bigger fan of old goth than new goth....so if we could play smiths, siouxsie, bauhaus, sisters of mercy, peter murphy, christian death, etc etc, just not How soon is now? peek a boo, bela lugosi's dead, etc, get what I'm saying?

Sorry folks, I won't make any promises of songs I won't or will play.
I am there to entertain the crowd that shows up. If I get bunches o legitimate requests for a song such as say "Personal Jesus", as much as I want to shove an ice pick in my ear drum every time I hear it, if it's what the crowd wants, it will likely be what they get.

I WILL be attempting to steer away from a lot of the over played stuff. What I'll play all goes by what the attending crowd is, what moves em, what requests I get, and what new stuff I am digging and "trying" to introduce to the scene. Thats just what a DJ does.

If you don't want to hear same old crap (believe me I'm tired of spinning it) then make some requests for what you'll dance too, and dance to it.
The changing of tunes is much up to all of you as it is to us. Rather than what you don't want, tell us what you do.

To that end I'm opening the online request a couple of days early.

great band.. used to try and play some of their stuff, but sadly got limited to no response from em, so pretty much dropped from my playlists.
Maybe it's finally their time....

Different DJs, different styles. That's the point though, right?

For the record, I didn't mean to imply that everyone spinning at sanctus had to follow my lead. This was just my decision on how I was going to conduct my portion of the evening. If you look back at the playlists, the songs I chose to eliminate are songs that I have played over and over and over which is why I chose them to be put to rest for a while.

As was pointed out by Hardcoregirl, there is a bunch of older stuff that you might here depending on the moods of the DJs. It's still a dance night though and I intend to honor that. That being said, iff you come early, you are alot more likely to hear some of the more Lounge ish type selections taht we sometime pull out of our box of tricks.

Playing new stuff is cool, but the fact is that the vast majority of new music that is specifically styled to be "goth" or "industrial" is ass-fucking-tastic.

I would suggest playing new stuff that fits the mood but doesn't necessarily have the stylistic trappings of goth/industrial. IE Chicks On Speed, Miss Kittin, Sixteen Horsepower, Xiu Xiu, Interpol, Death From Above 1979, Dead Meadow, etc.
I was born a bastard - and then I just got worse.

I'm just trying to be helpful. I think my suggestions would please a lot of the crowd.

Forget it, I won't go...hrmph.

Yes, I have wished you were dead. You are just another face in the crowd, someone who brings me suffering, someone I truely hate.
