Hostel

Post by Zeo »

http://www.hostelfilm.com/

Watched the trailer for this when I went to see 'SAW 2'. Everything I have read about it is soaked in blood and covered in entrails.
Produced by Quentin Tarantino, it's directed by Eli Roth, the director of 'Cabin Fever, and said to be much more grisly and serious than his previous film. He has a couple of other horror films coming soon, including "The Box" which, from what I have read, has a great plot synopsis.
'Hostel' is tagged as "inspired by true events", although that's a very vague statement, I'm not sure of origin of that is based.
At any rate this looks like another great LGF horror release.
Scheduled to come out December 21st.

I've been following this one for a while, and my hopes are very high. Most of what I have read says that we will be in for a very wet and nasty treat.

The true story stuff is very weak. Basicly, Roth and a coconspirator (Harry Knowles from AICN) were talking about all the weird shit you can accomplish over the internet, and got to talking about a case of cannibalism in Germany where the eater and the eatee got together on a cannibal fetish site and arranged a supper date.

That is not what Hostel is about, but it is about the idea that there is an outlet to be found for every fantasy, no matter how sick or violent.

Ah, so that's the true event(s) it's "based" on. I figured what ever it was had little relevance to the story's plot, and more a ploy than anything. The whole "based on a true story" thing is a bit tired, but oh well. The movie looks like it's going to be great.
Thanks for the heads up Oni, I don't remember this story, and not sure how it slipped past me. How chillingly disgusting...

Dammit. I was hoping to go see the movie Christmas Day, then come home to a cannibal feast :-(

Going to see this tomorrow. Not a huge Cabin Fever fan either (had its moments, but that's about it), but this looks visceral enough to be fun. I am very upset about the "R" rating though. They should have gone with an NC-17 or Unrated on this one.

What am I thinking...Then they couldn't release the Special 2-disc Unrated Version

Dug it. Really dug it. Roth gets the mood of this flick just right. There is enough humor at the begining to get you to really like these guys, though you may roll your eyes at their gulliblity and extreme pussy addiction. Still, this is a movie about appetites. For some, like these guys, it is sex. For others...

Things get pretty nasty, but I wouldn't have it any other way. From early reviews, it seems that this has been re-edited from an earlier version. That may have been a good idea, as the way I understood, the original sequencing telegraphed too much too soon.

Nice touches: Miike cameo, nod to "Suicide Club," nice use of "Willow's Theme" from Wicker Man.

Edited to add: The preview for Hard Candy looks phenomenal. I have a feeling this is going to one hell of a ride.

We saw it Saturday. I really enjoyed it. I liked the way it turned into sort of a revenge story rather than everyone getting killed or someone just surviving. Although it didn't explore the background of the Elite Hunting Club or what happened after Paxton's escape, it still made for a satisfying enough ending and left room for a possible sequel.
Also, it hit number one at the Box office beating out Narnia and Kong, which is just fucking awesome for such a horror flick.

Some say it was too hyped. Maybe to a certain extent, but I enjoyed it just as much as I had expected to.

He didn't cut off her head. He scalped her. I guess you only need to use the tippy tip tip of your knife for that.

Jew and I went to this last night and we both really liked it, the part with chick's eye was one of the best parts  just wish it would have gotten bloody sooner then it did.

 i thought i was going to have to wait for the new wicker man to hear another version of willow's song(at least it wasn't another metal version)...nice miike moment w/ the "spending a lot of money",oni-i just chuckled when the japanese girl was going to the train... did i see tarantino at the table? & the reference to bloody pit of horror(crimson executioner)in the tortuary was superb...that trailer for hard candy does look interesting...

total agreement here w/ what's been said here, not much to add about hostel...much better than cabin fever...although i would've liked to see more in the basement(how nice it would have been to see what was going on in each room at all times, not just glimpses)and less what i did on my summer vacation comedy special cliche oooarama, which took up a lot of the development time(that was one of the only problems i had w/ wolf creek)...

it's been a while since i have wanted three people to be ripped apart more...he pulled that off real well w/ all the "girls gone wild" shit, knowing good and well that 1/2 would love it,then others like me would loathe it(an old miike trick, make em' feel cheated)...i'm sure the unrated version will fix the "more" problem....dammit,i want that horned helmet...

vast improvement from the writing & development to the production values, and having nicotero on board(savini's protoge, and part of KNB)was a great move...seems eli has learned valuable some lessons,i look fwd to more from him now...

I honestly don't know why people who aren't mentally ill like movies like this.

And hey, I even liked Begotten.
I was born a bastard - and then I just got worse.
