You get an F for FAT

If it's not covered by one of those other categories, you should probably talk about it here. Be nice.

You get an F for FAT

Obesity indicator on school report cards?

Texas lawmakers are proposing that schools begin to include an obesity grade on students' report cards. Each student's body fat and weight will be recorded and sent to parents, alerting them to their child's health risk.

What better way to get a kid to shape up than by grading him on how fat he is. Lovely.

Well, this is what parents bitching about accountability to teachers gets you. The more you tell the teachers to keep up with, they more they'll do things like this. It's not the teacher's jobs to keep your kids generally healthy beyond keeping them safe at school. But if you bitch at them, they'll do things like this.

Haha...That's great...Ya know there is a factor in the fact that America is the fattest in the world...Probably because it's not really brought out as a health issue, but a vanity issue...There is no stigma for children, in that case...The parents should be responsable...This way they can look on the report cardand see that their child is good at science, but still a fat ass...I'm gonna go watch Angus...

Boortz was ranting this week that employers should be able to not hire you based upon being overweight or smoking, that was a fun thing to argue with the radio about.

Some people are bigger than others, and that's OK.

But some people are just fat, and they need to KNOCK IT OFF.

I mean, the secondhand fat I'm getting off them is FUCKING UP MY ARTERIES.

Ok you know what....why do they need to tell the parents that their kid is a fat-ass? they have eyes and they are the ones buying the food. And why take the vending machines out of schools?...the parents give the kids money for that specific purpose...and even if they dont, why punish the kids who arent fat by taking away the goodies?....anyway just as an example... my middle school took away all soda except diet coke...and they only let the kids have all natural juices and milk....they took away all the fatty foods....guess what? the kids brought it from home!....anyway they definetely cannot do that in high school...but you do have to wonder if having pizza hut, little cesaers, subway, KFC, and taco bell cater to your school is healthy....enough of my rant....because I am fat and happy!!!!

i dunno..its not about vanity with me..its about the diabetes that runs through my family like the clap through a whorehouse. I dont let my kids have very much sugar at all and they are old enough now to where they will refuse it on thier own and make healthy choices. I'm not a nazi about it..but we save deserts for once in a while like on family night or whatever..and we dont drink soda. I do what i can. I dont restrict thier caloric or fat intake and they are both very healthy kids..if only i would take as good care of myself as i do of them..eesh.

I use to hate the fact i was super skinny back when i was young but now.I enjoy the fact i cant produce awhole lot of fat and i remain a buff, cut, sliced, diced, ripped and jackkkkkked 150 pounds of twisted steel and sex appeal.I see what schools are trying to do but they need to realise not everybody at 8,9,10,11 are goin to be healthy but in that they have youth on there side.

Sometimes schools have just way too much authority over kids. Only when you're a kid can you be legally evaluated on terms of your size in a professional environment. If adults were to be assessed in terms of their weight in addition to academic or job performance we'd raise hell and sue the company, or college, because that'd be "descriminating" and "demeaning" to that person. Shouldn't that same standard be applied to kids, who are generally more sensitive about that kind of thing than adults? Could you imagine the impact on a kid's esteem to be told that basically they're fat in front of their peers? Juvenile obsesity is an issue, yes.. we're a nation of lard asses. Why, there's enough fat on Rush Limbaugh's ass to feed a small third world country for a year. However, obesity is a medical issue and should be dealt with privately between a patient(or a patient's parents) and a medical practicioner.

ok, i just thought of something. since there are a whole hell of alot of eating disorders out there, don't you think that some skinny kid who has it in their mind that they are fat, is going to hear this at their school... and think "oh my god i am fat so i immediatly need to stop eating stuff. and so i won't fail my class because my parents will kill me!!!!"

it is bad enough that society has told them that you have to be supermodel thin to get anywhere in this world today, now you are telling them that you can't even pass school if you aren't skinny.

next they will be grading on beauty and how much money your parents have.

and there is nothing absolutely nothing wrong with raising your kids to make healthy decisions about eating, you are one in a few who have taught their children healthy eating habits. :) i wish my parents had done the same for me.

I personally think that this is a waste of time considering that all the other kids will point out to the fat kids on a daily basis that they are fat. Since the other kids are pointing this out daily, why should the school have to add to that?
