Wow! That's really disturbing!

The only liberties you have are the liberties you take

Welcome to the Fascist States of America, where the Bill of Rights is used for toilet paper and Free Speech is limited to authorized Zones and even then had better not speak out against the powers that be. Anyone who believes that the current government is Constitutional and protects the rights of citizens is deluded. Thomas Jefferson had a lot to say on how to deal with an oppressive and corrupt government, so I refer the interested to his writings.

Good Lord, people. It is ILLEGAL to threaten the President's life. Period. Calling for a President's death is not proteced by Free Speech no matter what you think of him, which IS protected. She did something incredibly irresponsible (IMHO, rather stupid), and got called on it. It has nothing to do with Bush. Death threats in Clinton's era got Secret Service attention, too. To quote:

"MIDLAND, (AP) - President Clinton received a death threat via e-mail from a Midland High School computer, and it took just five hours for Secret Service agents to track it down.

Now a 17-year-old girl faces charges that can put her behind bars for a year, The Saginaw News reported yesterday.

"Through a number of searches and investigative techniques, we were able to pinpoint the student involved in sending the messages," said Jack Johnson Jr., supervisor of the Secret Service office in Saginaw.

Heidi Sullivan is accused of making three death threats last week, the first from a computer at the Grace A. Dow Memorial Library, the other two from a computer at the high school, Johnson said.

Sullivan was arraigned Wednesday in Midland County District Court on two counts of using a telephone line to make a malicious threat. Each misdemeanor count carries a penalty of six months in jail and a $500 fine. She was released on $5,000 personal recognizance. Officials decided not to charge her with more serious felonies."

Yeah. Clinton's administration had that one tracked in hours. Bush's took days. It would appear that, if anything, Bush needs to tighten his personal security. Even allowing time for the post to be reported and researched, as opposed to directly sent to the White House.

The freedom of speech is not absolute. I.E., you can't yell 'FIRE' in a crowded theater just to watch chaos ensue. Speech which is designed to threaten or harm anyone is not protected. There's just an organization to deal with people threatening the President and other high ranking public officials. It's been there for quite some time now. You can call the President any name you want, question anything from his policies to his parentage, blame him for every tiny detail that is wrong in your life, call for him to be pulled from office, but you can not call for assassination.

And there I've gone and posted about politics again. Damn you people. I only discuss politics with family when directly asked, and then I say as little as possible. Gah. Rant amongst yourselves, I'm going to bed.
Don't listen to that guy! He's gonna lead you down the path of righteousness. I'm gonna lead you down the path that rocks!

Did anyone find out what the original post on that LJ said? When I read that, it said they had hidden it so I didn't get to read it. Just curious.

Yes...but she never said anything calling for his death. Just how much she didn't like him and how much she didn't want to see him as president...etc etc...[/quote]

i read it too
there wasnt shit about threatening him
also, i can understand the need for this law but i think adminstrations allow it to go overboard.

and im working on some research on emerging techs that the government is already using (that part is considence to my research) and believe me, if you knew how much you really are watched, youd probably live in fear.

one of the scariest concepts known to man :: data mining + data wherehousing + nanotechnology + GPS positiong + one satelite pointed your way == everything you ever do or say documented and statsiticly anazlyzed your exact location and every location youve ever had documented. all your money documented.. you fucking name it
even scarier is the fact if the govenment pulls a law like this one and says : oh i think you threatened the prez : by the way, we pulled selective stuff about you from your archive and we know you were at this computer between these times on this day and the threat could have (and we believe was) made on that day so you cant fight us in court...... go str8 to jail because we said so.
this type of thinking is already occuring, but not all the technologies have been intragrated.
some analysts think one of the inspirations for bush outsourcing the tech jobs in this country was to make sure these types of advancements were delayed and pushed back except for the companies that the government is funding research for (which was exactly what happened in alot of the situations)....
anyway, 95% of the shit needed to do stuff like that exists already, a few things needed to be scaled down and a few laws passed and boom everything i just typed will be law. and thats the type of direction shit is headed if youve read most of the last big acts the government has passed (fuck you bush).
your friend there is damn lucky the government is busy right now.
and you cocksuckers that think im paranoid, id like to remind you the government is already doing most of my equation up there, echelon and shit like that exist anyway and are even publicly discussed by the government... add shit like that into my equation.
these are the tools to build the maching of "big brother"
the evil empire exists and its almost done creating its undefiable structure.
