If it's not covered by one of those other categories, you should probably talk about it here. Be nice.

My Summer of Fear and Loathing

Post by Onibubba »

Begin rant…This morning made it official. I am going to spend the rest of the summer mad as a fucking hatter. The news clips that sent me over the edge as I drove in to work this morning were Bush's answer to the question of tacit approval of torture that all troops were ordered to follow the law. When prodded that the memorandum from March implied that torture could be interpreted as legal if the case were made, Bush angrily and impatiently responded that the US is governed by people whose interest was in the law and freedom. How many times does he have to say it?

This story was followed by one on Drug Trafficker, Glaxo Smith Kline, pushers of Paxil. A suit has been filed against them which asks the question "Does a drug company have to inform people of the results of a study the company paid for if the results show NEGATIVE AND DETRIMENTAL findings?" A study of Paxil focused on CHILDREN showed that the group taking the drug was more likely than those taking the placebo to show signs of depression or thoughts of violence against themselves or others. The company's defense is that they made that study available to the FDA, so if the FDA felt the public needed to know, why didn't they release it? The reason? The law. Because of proprietary and confidentiality laws the FDA was unable to release the results of this study. The study is Study 377 for Paxil for anyone who wants to get further disgusted.

So, we are a nation that supports laws and freedom? Bullshit. We are a nation that refuses to take responsibility for our actions, because we are all a bunch of TV Babies brought up by TV Babies. We try to legally justify everything that we do regardless or whether it is right or wrong. I don't need courts or lawyers to interpret torture or selling potentially harmful drugs to children as being right or wrong. I know what is inherently right or wrong and so does everyone else. Orwell was off by a couple of decades. Thoughtcrime and Doublespeak has never been more evident than it is today. No wonder I don't want to raise a kid...My optimism is forever gone. We are on a downward spiral from which I seriously doubt we are going to recover anytime soon. Fuck 'em all. End rant…For now.
