The Ossuary in Sedlec

If it's not covered by one of those other categories, you should probably talk about it here. Be nice.

The Ossuary in Sedlec

Post by Hardcoregirl »

I came across this site today and found it too cool not to share. Located in Czechoslavakia, this christian chapel is decorated in thousands of human bones.

Very intresting. Do they have a list of whom the bones belong to is my question. Also, I wonder if you could donate your bones to them, because that would be a kickass, and super odd grave site.

In Churches of this style (most european catholic churches) you can only be buried in the grave yard for a little while (usually about a year or two, just enough to let you decay down to bone) Then your dug up and thrown into a pile down in the catacombs (yes most of them have one of some kind or other), in place like this church someone gets bored and says hey you know what would be cool....(so probably dont know whoes bones they are.)

wow

that is amazing. soooo much detail.

i think i would be kinda creeped out if i were standing inside, though. when i saw one of the pics, the first thing that came to my mind was jeffery dahmer and then the stereotypical cult or cannablistic shrines you see in movies. it took me a couple minutes to look at the pics and think of a real church. its like looking at the word "purple" when its written in green.

craziness. but absolutely amazing.
