I still remember trying to make green eggs and ham with lime Kool-Aid.

Yes, I have wished you were dead. You are just another face in the crowd, someone who brings me suffering, someone I truely hate.

I was always fond of Green Eggs and Ham myself. It will always have a special place in my childhood memories.

Green Eggs and Ham is the basis for a lot of parodies for me...

I do not like you Spooky Pete.
I do not like your stinky feet.
I hear your digits aren't discrete.

and so on.

It's too easy.

Dr Seuss was also a man that was a HUGE supporter of the interment of Japanese Americans during World War II. How might than whimsical book have gone?

That's not nice.
You stupid nip

'Til Hirohito goes away.

It is odd that his later children's books taught environmentalism, racial tolerance, and other serious issues, even tackling the Cold War. After the bombing of Pearl Harbor, he may have just been swept up in hysteria. It has certainly happened before.

"However, it is Dr. Seuss's portrayal of the Japanese that is most disturbing. His Japanese characters don't represent Hirohito or any other well-known World War II figure, in contrast to his obvious pictures of Hitler. Instead, Minear wrote, "...Dr. Seuss draws 'Japan' - piggish nose, coke-bottle eyeglasses, slanted eyes, brush mustache, lips parted (usually in a smile)." He went on to say, "Perhaps it is no surprise that American cartoonists during the Pacific War painted Japan in overtly racist ways. However, it is a surprise that a person who denounces anti-black racism and anti-Semitism so eloquently can be oblivious of his own racist treatment of Japanese and Japanese Americans. And to find such cartoons - largely unreproached - in the pages of the leading left newspaper of New York City and to realize that the cartoonist is the same Dr. Seuss we celebrate today for his imagination and tolerance and breadth of vision: this is a sobering experience."

Dr Seuss' World War II political cartoons are collected in the book Dr Seuss Goes To War.

I had a whole blog entry about that book! If you look at his political cartoons you'll see a strange dichotomy: he promotes equality between blacks and whites, but then has very racist views on other races like the Japanese. Another article about the personal political beliefs of Seuss and other juvenile lit authors is This Sneetch Kills Fascists.

I'm not all about Seuss; I think his work is sometimes fun.

What's all this Dr. Suess stuff about SpookyPete? We all know he's really just Sam Bob Sponge Pants!

Shut up, Diddy; you're next after I'm through with him.

Your shape is square just like a sponge
Your head is full of soaked-up gunge
You from my list I'll soon expunge
I'll grind you up to beat and blunge.

Spooky Pete is Sam? I know Sam (not in the biblical sense), and i always wondered who he was on the board. See I have a reason to like Suess now, although he still scares me.

I will not play this game with you
I would not continue this with Sneed or Snoo
SirD you'll get yours too
Don't we have better things than this to do

I think we've had a good enough time
Getting poetic like this is a crime
I believe I'll have some Sprite with lime
Now I have run out of things to rhyme

I guess you don't have time to play
I guess you hate me anyway
Well that's OK, just be that way!

This day rolled around a couple of years ago, while I was still living in the dorms, and mother dearest sends me a package... brand new copy of Green Eggs and Ham and a handful of balloons. I opened said package in the middle of a student's lounge... everyone was immediately convinced that my mom was incredibly cool.
My watch, for years, was Sam-I-Am... it'll make it through one more watchband before the holes are so worn the pegs won't hold if I get it a third battery.
Three favorites, though, would have to be "There's a Wocket in my Pocket", "Green Eggs and Ham", and "One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish"
Don't listen to that guy! He's gonna lead you down the path of righteousness. I'm gonna lead you down the path that rocks!
