Are there any Mormons on the board?

If it's not covered by one of those other categories, you should probably talk about it here. Be nice.

Are there any Mormons on the board?

Post by ManicRepression »

I was reading some of the posts in the Passion thread and noticed someone mentioned the Mormons. Are there any Mormons on this board? Has anyone here attended the Mormon church? Being raised in a Mormon church for 17 years, I do have lots to learn about other religions. I haven't been to church in almost ten years. I haven't been to any church in almost 10 years. Reading the posts about the Passion, I realized there is so much I don't know about Christ and Christianity in general. Since I was pretty much forced to go to church with the family until I graduated from high school, I didn't listen much and retained little. Religion fascinates me and freaks me out at the same time because it is such a personal subject. Anywho, I was just curious if anyone could recommend any good books out there that give factual, unbiased information on a variety of religions.

I got baptised into the church at 14 because my then husband said he'd quit using drugs if I did, and I was willing to try anything to get the jerk to be a better father.

Didn't work.

It's been nearly 10 years since I've been to church...but my son is an active member (his father takes him).

The mormon church has many neat things that make it one of the better organized religions in my opinion..

If either of you haven't already...consult the South Park episode that deals with Mormons. It paints a very real and a very perfect picture.

Good Book = Milton's Lost Book of Bible
Another Good Book = Milton's Paradise Lost

As far as religion goes...it depends on what day you ask me about it. I never was a team player. I've been Catholic,Baptist,Satanic, and somewhat Pagan. (Hehe) And lately I've been talking to a J. Witness. (I do not recomend this...they seem to be quick tempered.) I know alittle bit about everything...but,not enough to play the part.

EditI may have had those books titled wrong. It has been since high School that I have read them.
Yes, I have wished you were dead. You are just another face in the crowd, someone who brings me suffering, someone I truely hate.

They would't excommunicate someone for drinking coke...

They just suggest you lay off drugs, alcohol, caffeine and things that are bad for ya. I believe they believe that your body is a temple, and god isn't gonna dwell too much in an unclean temple. If I was christian, I'd prolly agree...not many junkies or drunks I know are very holy peeps....

i dunno...he had told us he was being "cast out" and one of the supposed reasons was that he drank coke. he was a huge fan of black oak arkansas...not that has anyhintg to do with the topic at hand, but oh well.

Buttercup, I love you. You are so true. That seems to be a common misconception about Mormonism. The whole treat your body like a temple is a great thing, if you can follow it. My sister is a return missionary and she won't even watch rated R movies. The church tells them they don't recommend it, but it is an individual choice. It kills me, because I think she is missing out on some great movies. It is her personal choice though.

Good God! I meant to say Trey Parker. I was thinking Ol' Matt Stone and his cute little White Boy Fro and got all disoriented. Trey Parker was the blonde guys and was raised Mormon.
