BURN BABY, BURN!!!

If it's not covered by one of those other categories, you should probably talk about it here. Be nice.

BURN BABY, BURN!!!

Post by scarecrow »

For those of you associated with the random burnings in the fort yet another house has fallen. The green house on 12th street between laurel and clinch (almost right behind me) went down at about 5am this morning. At some point we have to hit a world's record here.

I read about that on WBIR's site. I'm just glad you are Ok.

I hope it was just an accident and not arson.

this is starting to get to be too much.

I'm considering going around and taking pictures of each house here, then another image after it burns, because so many of them are going down.

at least that way I can stop some of the loss in the fort.

eh..it was a good little ways from the house even being right behind it but it is freaky when you have all these emergency vehicles running rampant round your block at 5 am.

Yes, very glad you're alright. Was anyone hurt? Do they know the cause?

:-x goodness............ as close as those houses are in that area it is surprising that the whole block doesn't go up in a puff of smoke............Those were beautiful houses.. why would someone do that or be too careless as to start one even if by accident?

Not scared of little fire, are you Scarecrow?

Sorry couldn't resist..
Glad your okay, I know the feeling of coming home too firetrucks around the house. Had house one over from mine burn down about a year & 1/2 ago. Nothing like getting off the highway to see in the distance multiple fire trucks parked in front of your house... EEK

One of these days an arsonist is gonna end up burning the entire "fort" to the ground :-?

I was right next door to the fire....

Post by Scorptrio »

Last night before going to sleep I had a really strong feeling that there was going to be a fire. I went around the apartment making sure the candles were out, and that nothing flammable was near the heaters. I was satisfied that the premonition wasn't about the apartment, so I went to sleep. I had odd dreams which woke me up just before 5 AM. Looking out the window, I saw smoke one block over and soon after the fire trucks came rolling in. The fire was only one block away. The whole house wasn't destroyed, but the top floor was, so the building will probably be condemned, as the second floor had considerable damage and the main floor was probably water logged.

Damn, I hate always being right about these things... you'd think that foreknowledge about an event would come with a way to PREVENT the event. Of course, then it wouldn't happen so the vision would be false... like one of those time-travel paradoxes, I suppose.

Everyone please change the batteries in their smoke detectors and buy one of those one-use fire extinguishers, they are cheap and will pay for themselves in one use!

Up to the minute report on ANOTHER fire in the same area!

Post by Scorptrio »

It's 2:40 AM on Saturday, December 27

There is another house fire in the "Fort Area" as I type. This is the second house fire within a one block area in just 22 hours. I have an eye witness on the scene telling me that there is smoke everywhere and police are searching the area. Fire units have responded and are on the scene. The building on fire is on the north side of Laurel Ave. near 12th Street. (See map, below.) The building which is burning is a house which has been converted to apartments. If I get more details, I'll post them as they come in.

3 AM: Further reports say that EMS personnel have arrived and are apparently treating people for smoke inhalation.

3:10 AM: Fire fighters are tearing out the upstairs walls looking for the center of the fire (details from Scarecrow, just 15 ft. from the blaze)

3:20 AM: The roof is on fire and fighters are trying to reach it with spray from their hoses.

3:30 AM: Fire fighters are tearing out more of the ceiling trying to reach the main part of the blaze.

4:15 AM: The fire fighting goes on, the building still burning, and I'm off to bed. God bless those people who were living there.

This is your up to the minute arson reporter, signing off for now...
