Northern Exposure tavern & grill

Post by pryjmaty »

Bear with me, I have never written a restuant review before. I will try to keep this as organized as possible.

This is a very nifty, if not pricey, place to go to. We tried once before to go on a Sat. night around 7p.m. There was a 2 hour wait. We went tonight around 5 p.m. and had no seating problem.
They have a very nice ambiance with light jazz playing on the intercom. There is a wide variety on the menu; vegetarian meals also. Much of their food is from scratch, including the sausages. The only real drawback to this place is the smoking section is in the bar and it is first-come-first-serve.
MENU
The Bar: A custom made dirty bong water (New Orleans Kiss) was made for Doc. It was very good and they only charged $4.75 for it. I had a dirty martini. It was OK. I had to request more olive juice in my second one. They have a fully stocked bar with many topshelf brands. There is a wide variety of beers(import and domestic). The bar service is somewhat slow. We also had an Irish coffee which was a real one with just a hint of creme de menthe. Very good.

The meal was begun with a freshly baked loaf of dark, multi-grain bread & herbed butter. This was very good. The bread was good & crusty on the outside and soft & tasty on the inside.

Appetizers: price range $3.25-9.25
We had the pierogies with marinara. They are deep fried with a potato & cheese filling topped with parmesan. They have a very good texture. They are not homemade, but good nonetheless. The marinara is homemade and very tasty. $6.25
Also, we had the Pound O'Shrooms. This is one pound of mushrooms dipped in a Sam Adams beer batter, deep fried and served with a horseradish cream. the cream is also made from scratch. They were cooked perfectly and quite juicy. $6.50

Entrees: Price range $8.95-17.95
Doc & I were eating off of each others plates. It was quite amusing.
He had the Great Lakes Walleye with a side of broiled mushrooms & swiss(14.95). The fish was very fresh without a strong fishy taste to it. It was perfectly cooked and the sauce did not overwelm the flavor of the fish. This was a WONDERFUL entree. Doc really liked the mushrooms. They were broiled in butter with light garlic and topped with swiss cheese. I'm not real big on swiss, so I did not like it as well.
I had the grilled German meatloaf with a side of cheese & onion mashed potatoes. This was quite tasty. It was firm, not mushy. Had a good texture to the meat topped with a very tasty red curry BBQ. Once again, the sauce was just right and did not overwelm the flavor of the meat. The potatoes are not instant, but real. They went well with the meatloaf; however, they were somewhat bland.(9.25)

They have a wide variety of salads($2.85-9.95)
Also a good variety of sandwiches, subs, and burgers.($6.00-8.25)

For desert, we had the chocolate "O". Yummy! It was a chocolat-hazelnut ganache in the middle of a chocolate cake topped with whipped cream. Deserts range $4.95-6.25. This was excellent.

Their coffee is a dark Vienna roast. Strong, but not too strong.

Overall, the quality of the food compared with the prices was quite excellent.

The service was very friendly & accomidating. The manager overheard Doc commenting to me that the bar was a bit slow and promtly went and seen about it.

The bathroom were very clean and well ventilated. Plenty of soap and drying towels.

No, we didn't finish all of that food. We brought alot of it home, but we wanted to sample a good variety of it for the purpose of the review.

I give them a 10. We will definately go back(when we have money). It is a high quality restuarant. You won't get by with $20 bucks here, but it is worth it.

It is located at 10995 Kinston pike in Farragut. Wed. is all-you-can-eat fish fry for $9.00. Heading toward Lenoir City from Knoxville, it is in the shopping center right next to the minature golf place with the dinosaurs on the right hand side of the road.

Post by Sihaya »

Suz ( aka Vampyrya and ( Thor ) went one Sunday Night around 9 pm it was dead, only the bar was open. The big O is sinfull, I had a sausage sampler plate I was a little disapointed. The pound of shrooms was worth the trip, and the bucket of beer. Just thought I would pass this along. I found on ebay a restraunt gift certificate site. They have Northern exposier 25$ going for 5$ to 10$ this is a cheap way to eat quite good:)
