Here's a pattern for neet-o "gawth" curtains that'll take no time. It's very easy, fun, and forgiving of mistakes, so it's good for beginners...
You will need-
2 balls of sport-weight or light chunky weight black cotton size 13 or 15 needles (try swatches w/ both and see which you prefer) a window (duh!)
Using the guage of the swatch you knitted, figure how many stiches you need to cast on to cover the width of said window plus a little extra for added "flounce." Cast on that amount in whatever fashion you prefer.
1. Seed stich (k1, p1, reverse on ws) for 3 to 4". Then do 4 rows garter (all knit). 2. Then... on the next row, with each knit stich, wrap the yarn around the needle 3 times (as in, knit, pull stitch off old needle, yarn over 3 times). 3. After that row, knit 1, slip 3, knit 1, slip 3, down the whole row. This will create a neat "lacy-but-not" effect. 4. Knit 3 rows. 5. Repeat #'s 3 and 4 until the curtain is the length you want minus about 2". 6. Knit last 2" and bind off loosely. 7. Give the whole damn thing some good hearty tugs to pull the stitches taut and to flatten it. 8. Stitches are large enough to fit *most* curtain rods- slide it on and admire your work.
I want to learn to knit, however, even with all the books and supplies I have amassed..I don't know if I can get it without the assistance of someone showing me...drat!

hey we cab have a knitting or crochet circle at my house i'm in lenoir city. close enoug for everyone ta come. yay. i only crochet but i;d like to knit. specially the curtains. bb~
That's what I was going to say...both hanid and I live in LC. We could plan one evening or on the weekend to get together and learn to knit or knit & crochet.

Yeah...I definitely want to do this...but coordinating a bunch of peoples lives is kinda hard...a weekend afternoon/evening would prolly be best for me.
I was a Michaels the other day and started petting the pretty yarns...oh they are so snuggley and the colors, oh the colors!
There will be no way we could schedule something like this where everyone that wants to could be there. As far as I know, weekends would be the best time for most.
What about setting our "sewing circle" up for the 2nd or last Sat. afternoon of the month and, maybe, the first Thursday of the month. We could get together twice a month. By having once during the week and once on the weekend, that might allow for everyone to be involved.

LMAO, don't fall into that trap!!! I *just* started knitting in August, and already have *way* more yarn than I could ever use!! Yarn = addictive! LOL

I'm not into nitting at the moment, but I have been buying some of the Beautiful single strand chenille yarn to braid into my hair. The colors are jewel toned, and show up really well. I've been thinking about getting some of the thicker, nubbier chenille to experiment with. If I did decide to knit or crochet I would have plenty to start with.
The thought of a bunch of goth chicks sitting around knitting and crocheting is just too amusing for words. 
But I'm there!!
