Art Forum

Post by JaNell »

We've talked about an Art Forum before. Do we really need one?

Knoxville has galleries, and art co-ops, but many of them seem very exclusionary. My theory on the Art Market, for instance, is that you must own a mini-van to even be considered...

So, do we want to have a place to show off our work, and possibly organize a show or two?

It's tough to say whether we need a whole new section for artistic works or not. Of course, as with all things, it's up to the administration. :D

However, if you do get one, I would suggest making a sticky thread for both posting your own work, and discussion of artistic techniques.

Personally, I'd like to see a Photoshop / image manipulation section in there if you do get the forum. Image

It's not a matter of ME getting the forum, it's a matter of US getting the forum.

Anyone who wants one, SPEAK UP.
Mommy ainta gonna get you the pretty Art Forum, you know - it's a group effort, or we don't need one. Period.

the fact that
this

One more place to mindlessly chant, "Boring!"

has most of the votes is really fucking disturbing
but speaks wonders at the same time

i voted for Posting of shows, gallery openings, and contests.
but i also think
it should include
Posting of our own work.
Discussion of art theory, and other artists.

Regardless the place, some peeps will alwayz feel the need 2 mindlessly chant, "Boring!" ...but I suppose that the mindless have their needs, 2. :poke:

Personally, I would love 2 c more art on the site :dup: ... members' works, shows, discussions,... I, honestly, wondered about it back when CraftyGoth got started. Perhaps, these 2 forums could co-exist 2 serve both admin's & members' purposes without as much trouble as starting a whole "new" forum taking up separate pgs/space.

Oh Gawd no please don't do that!
:banghead:

You were just poking me, right?
Please tell me that you're kidding.

IF the CraftyGoth section were the appropriate place for Art, wouldn't we already be using it for that?

Geeeeeeezzzzzz, JaNell... does it hurt much? :tsk:

Perhaps, u'v heard of "Arts & Crafts" as a group or show classification... the parallel does exist, at least on this plane. Thus far, the art world has survived... U might even survive, but let's not b pessimistic.

I'm down with the idea of having and promoting shows within the community. I know we've got alot of talent in our midst, and we should be encouraging it. You guys should see some of Ronnie's work! He's fantastic! He's had a few shows around town already and sold some pieces. I know I'd also love to see some of your work, JaNell. I wonder how many others would be willing to contribute?

LOL

Arts & Crafts is a movement of architecture and interior design - unfortunately, the term has been muddied through communicative laxity (ironic that I'm explaining this 2 u, isn't it?):

Founders of The Arts and Crafts Movement
The Arts & Crafts Movement in The American Midwest
Arts & Crafts Movement

Sure, your craft can be done with art - and your art can show great craft in its making - but they are two differant things.
*sigh*

Can we move on here?
An Art Forum is a really good thing, and I'm getting irritated that you're getting your jollies insisting that we use the Crafts Forum for it, that they are one and the same, just because you know it's irritating.

~o~

Mo, there are a lot of artists who need a place here. As I keep pointing out, with great futility (apparently), if the CraftyGoth forum were appropriate for art, we'd all be posting stuff there already. I really don't care if I post a single thing there myself - it's something the board needs.

I reeeeeeeealy hope so!

I agree that an art forum iz a good thing, I also think that we have many gifted artists who could use such a thing. I simply made a helpful suggestion, 2 b taken or left by the board/appropriate admins, that might actually b useful 2 enable it... [looking past terminology (Arts/Crafts) & being practical]. I suppose that the fact that it irritates u would amuse me a bit, tho , if only it wasn't so damn sad... :nopity:

Well, keep posting those interesting threads - put the word "Art" in the title, reply a lot, and maybe we can get the mods to see that we really want one.

ART

I think an art forum would be an excellent idea. Networking is always a necessity with in any realms of a social society. This would then allow more individuals the opportunity to get more freelancing gigs. This, in turn can always help no matter what line of work you are in!

Don't put art in my Crafty goodness! Give it it's own place to live and grow and thrash about. I'll keep my bricks, yarn, cloth, and sewing machine in the crafty section. I might however throw a couple of sketches onto the art forum if we get one. You know you want to see my art. ;o)

I had a nice conversation with Vader about this this weekend on someones porch with some beer. And he explained to me he doesn't have the time or desire to deal with an Art forum....after speaking with him, I believe there is a snowballs chance in hell of getting one.

I don't get the big fucking deal....its art. Why would it need its own forum? Most of the forums we bitched and moaned to get aren't even used that much...so why annoy the mods with the incessant whining? Talk about art...in general or in crafty goth...the fucking balance of the universe is not at stake.

I'm not against having an arts forum, but I doubt it would get much use. I think most people don't come to the site for discussion of art or art history. I think it's more of a way to check out what's going on.
What is stopping anyone who wants to post their artwork or a thread discussing art right now?
I am a hair and make up artist. By the same token I could say we need a hair and make up forum because it is different than the fashion forum.
The art thing [/i]sounds cool, but I feel it would not be used and would take up space that could be put to better use.
