T. Rex is the bomb. Ever notice how similar the Love and Rockets song "So Alive" is to "Bang a Gong"?

Slim Cessna's Auto Club--"Say Please and Thank You"

Insurgent country, featuring Reverend Glasseye (from Reverend Glasseye and his Wooden Legs) in the backup band. I saw these guys last weekend and bought the CD just because I couldn't get tracks like "My Last Song About Satan" out of my head. If you like folks like Son Volt, the V-Roys, 16 Horsepower, etc., you would prolly dig Slim Cessna. They're on Alternative Tentacles, and their website is http://www.slimcessnasautoclub.com/

Jay Munly--"Jimmy Carter Syndrome"

Another insurgent country disc, this is a solo project from one of the members of Slim Cessna's Auto Club, also bought at last weekend's show. This disc is stylistically more like Nick Cave, Tom Waits, Leonard Cohen, and other slow angry sad man music. On Smooch Records.

This Mortal Coil--"Filigree and Shadow"

People know this one, I assume. (If not, it's one of those revolving membership collaborative groups with folks from 4AD and Beggars Banquet bands, among others)

Bella Morte--"The Quiet"

Saw these guys Monday night, with Boston dark-synth-pioneer locals You Shriek and NYC deathrock-darlings the Brides. If you haven't heard Bella Morte, you can check them out at http://www.mp3.com/bellamorte. They're all over the map in their music, from synth-heavy dancefloor numbers (like "The Rain Within Her Hands") to screaming deathrock tracks (like "The Coffin Don't Want Me And She Don't Either"). Their official site is here: http://www.bellamorte.com/

The Brides--"Here Come the Brides"

Like I said, saw these guys Monday night. If you like swampy ominous horror punk with a laugh track (think the Cramps), you should totally check out the Brides.
