What music do you like? Bands, genres etc! let me now :D

If it's not covered by one of those other categories, you should probably talk about it here. Be nice.

Well, they were one of the first. Looking forward to seeing Neubauten in Asheville on the 16th.
"Industrial" music as a genra began with the formation of Throbbing Gristle in late 1975. Genesis P. Orridge invented the term/genra. The genre took its name from the label that Throbbing Gristle set up, Industrial Records.

Yes !!!! you know your stuff mate!

ZYKLON B ZOMBIE!!!!

Have you seen what he looks like lately god it is mental!!!

What about Rhythm & Noise? I think they were around in the late 50s/early 60s if I remember correctly.

I personally dont know much about the origins of noise etc but a good friend of mine listens to it avidly for sure.

He used to be into things like NIN then went on to blackmetal and since then has been listening to Throbbing Gristle and Hanatarash etc. He is in a noise band which comprises of himself!

He is hell of a person and his influences from the music he enjoys are fantastic in a insane way.

Enough of him lol hoha!...

Does anyone enjoy listening to Sheep On Drugs at all?!?!?!?

I personally would call them industrial techno but maybe someone has another opinion with that?!?!?!

Einstürzende Neubauten (*note actually the first industral band)

actually they don't even consider themselves an industrial band

and throbbing gristle and monte cazazza are the founders of the genre
tg started making the music
and monte called it industrial music for industrial people
so tg made"industrial records"
and so it began
i'd rather be your enemy than hear you call me friend

I had always thought of Neubauten as more experimental than industrial - same with early Test Department. I suppose the distinction that I drew in my head was that Neubauten worked more with the implementation of found sounds in the creation of their music, whereas TG and the like worked more with frequencies and often strove not so much to create music as a crowd reaction to sound. I have always associated some kind of frequency and electronics use with industrial music.

EN have accomplished so much in their career that I really have a hard time calling them experimental today. For nearly 30 years, their music has evolved to absoulte perfection. They are no longer experimenting with sound - they know exactly what they are looking for and how to coax the sounds they want out of wood, metal, plastic, rock, water, and air. Their last several albums, since Tabula Rasa I would say, have all been perfectly constructed pieces of music. Their days of experimenting are over - EN are consumate professionals. On a side note, now that Blixa has removed himself from Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds to concentrate on EN and other projects, we should be in for a lot of great new work from this band. Hope to see some of you in Atlanta and Ashville next weekend for their tour.

Not the "noise" genre, Rhythm and Noise was a band in the late 1950s/early 1960s that was a precursor to things like TG and Neubaten.

Sheep on Drugs? I haven't heard anyone mention them since '98. I just shrug and call them industrial, but then I've got a simplistic set of genres I work with. Makes life simpler and cuts down on the debates on whether a group is EBM, techno, or future pop (or whatever)

Some more buggery for you...TG-RE was cancelled. Brainwashed.com had info on that Monday. Couldn't have made it anyway, but damn shame.

Gen is still putting out music and now dresses like a woman. Not sure of the full story, but I think that the idea is that he and the Mrs. are "one" person  Ah well, the guy has done so much for music, let him do what he likes. I've heard rumurs of a new PTV, but most of what he has been doing lately is solo work or with the band Thee Majesty. Sadly, none of it is very exciting. I did enjoy his collaboration with Merzbow from a few years back...

Yeah i heard something about him and his wife being 'one' hoha!
I was told he was having a sex change aswell, probably rumours.
Never heard about RE-TG being cancelled mind you. That seems rather odd.

The man...well woman or whatever he now prefers ,does deserve some time off.

How old is he now? god he must be an OAP by now maybe?!?!?!

Now off from TG...

SPAM, you have good taste in hip hop. I was really starting to get into a lot of those bands when I moved from Nashville. There was a show on the Vandy college radio station dedicated to that music and I must have called in every other day on the way home from work "Who the fuck was that you just played? That was amazing!" Bands / artists that you mentioned that I really liked stood out for inventive loops, brilliant lyrics, and overall great instrumentation: Also, Mr Lif, Del TFHC, Majesticons.

Bauhasfiend, if you want to take a trip into the odd, I would advise exploring the music of Steven Stapleton, AKA Nurse With Wound. I've added a link below where you can check some sound samples. NWW has released an absolute shitload of music, some good, some bad, all very experimental. Another genre defying musician - Frank Zappa. Give him a shot, but he is another artist with dozens of releases. Hard to pin him down. Hmmmm...Also John Zorn, especially his work with Naked City - Thrash punk jazz. His solo work is less intense, but still interesting.

Mr. G.P.O does all sorts of work with cEVIN cEY. In the project..The Tear Garden. And if I recall correctly, he is on one of the neu Skinny Puppy tracks. And yes, his poor meat and potatos are more of a mashed yam now.

Onibubba...I cannot believe you of all people didn't suggest Fantomas.

Luv me some Enigma as well.

Oh yeah I also faile dto mention Recoil in my list.

industrial... ebm... electro... experimental... i really dont listen to a certain genre... if it sounds good ill listen to it, but this is whatd youd classify most of what i listen to under. i really like electro. its like techno. except not. of course, the people at my school call the indutrial that i listen to "techno". noobtards. if they wouldnt just listen to what mtv told them to... oh well. i gurantee that i am the only person in my school that has heard of neubauten or TG. or 242 and FLA for that matter (both i adore with much adoration. heh) of course i listen to alot more than just that... in short, i love german music... oh, and im not gonig to make a list of stuff i listen to because it would just invariably run on and on for pages and no one would actually read it and it would be a great waste of my time. so nyah.

all and all, kmfdm is my favourite band. ever. i have all of their lps except for dont blow your top. IF ANY ONE OWNS OR CAN OBTAIN FOR ME A COPY OF THIS CD, I WOULD PAY ANY AMOUNT OF MONEY FOR IT. thanks if you can do this for me. heh.

Well, someone else had mentioned Patton. I really like a lot of what he has done, primarily Mr. Bungle, but his other projects have been generally very good. He has done some work with John Zorn too, who I feel he idolizes to some extent. I've asked before, but do you know of a live Naked City recording where Patton "sings" the Yamatsuk Eye portions? I have downloaded some songs, but cannot find verification anywhere that this ever happened. If it did, I cannot believe a recording has not been made readily available by Ipecec or Zorn's lable.

Well, to my knowledge ,I haven't heard of a recording of it.Actually I have only been able to find a smathering of mp3's of Patton/Naked City.

Usless info...Didja know that on Bjork's next album she is doing a slight spin-off of Mike Patton's "Adult Theme For Voice"? music made with her vocals..BUT, what akes this uber-niffty is that Patton will be doing guest voices on it as well. SWEET!!!

I'm really stoked for this one. Whereas Patton is my fave, Bjork comes ot a close second. i wonder what levels of delerium they can reach together? Might make for a good listen.

A selection of favorites of mine ...

I like the classic 80's wave/synth stuff, like Human League, Erasure, Yazoo, Depeche Mode, Alphaville, Camouflage, Red Flag, Cause and Effect, New Order, Men Without Hats, Heaven 17, a-ha, Enigma, and Tears for Fears ... but above all, Erasure has to be my number one influence when it comes to my own music!

And I am also a big fan of the modern electro scene, bands who strive to keep this tradition alive. Iris, Echoing Green, Leiahdorus, Wave in Head, Freezepop, Soviet, Ganymede, NukleoN, Gary Flanagan, Empire State Human, Travelogue, Entropy64 ... just a few examples. Mostly bands no one has heard of but I'd really like to change that!
