Five years ago today, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold murdered their classmates and teachers at Columbine High School. Most Americans have reached one of two wrong conclusions about why they did it. The first conclusion is that the pair of supposed "Trench Coat Mafia outcasts" were taking revenge against the bullies who had made school miserable for them. The second conclusion is that the massacre was inexplicable: We can never understand what drove them to such horrific violence.

But the FBI and its team of psychiatrists and psychologists have reached an entirely different conclusion. They believe they know why Harris and Klebold killed, and their explanation is both more reassuring and more troubling than our misguided conclusions. Three months after the massacre, the FBI convened a summit in Leesburg, Va., that included world-renowned mental health experts, including Michigan State University psychiatrist Dr. Frank Ochberg, as well as Supervisory Special Agent Dwayne Fuselier, the FBI's lead Columbine investigator and a clinical psychologist. Fuselier and Ochberg share their conclusions publicly here for the first time.

The first steps to understanding Columbine, they say, are to forget the popular narrative about the jocks, Goths, and Trenchcoat Mafia—click here to read more about Columbine's myths—and to abandon the core idea that Columbine was simply a school shooting. Thanks Traveler, I was kind of distracted with the news, reading and a video. Shit blows my mind. Always have had an issue with this kind of thing. Well, everyone should oppose it, but yea.

i can agree with striking back against those who oppress you, but they were kids shooting kids because they werent seen in the eyes of their peers as cool enough.

it gets on my nerves when people just whine to damn much.
id bet the reason noone liked em is they were too busy whining about people not liking em to go be themselves.
or maybe going on a killing spree is being themselves, if thats the case, more power to em.
i do have to admit though, id have loved to have done that in HS.

started wearing my trenchcoat all the fucking time to spook the college frats soon as it got cold again.
i support acts of vengance when its justified, and to them im sure it was... and they were obviously kinda smart because they pulled it together rather well... but in the end.... well... theres better ways than to just get a full auto and make a shitload of bodies. they needed some grasp on how to extract revenge more refined.
i can maybe even shooting one or two people by planning it out to where they cant get caught as an EXTREME he raped my mother kinda thing.
but that shit was just stupid. theres better ways.

was kinda torn on it then and now.
if they were gonna go on a shooting spree, makes more sense to me to get their parents and their elected officials and their president. get all the things that created the evil and then let the evil rot as an orphan.
i dont support shooting kids. i do support shooting republicans or rich fat old white people (aka the types that donate Bush money)

Actually, Junkie that was the point of the article. They were determining that it wasn't because "nobody loves me" with one of the killers, and that he, had he ben to a therpist, would most likely been diaignoised as a psychopath.

interesting. apparently i'm a psychopath as well. i hate stupid people, i believe we've thwarted natural selection to the point of dooming the human race, i feel nothing but contempt for 99% of the people around me, and some days... some days i just sit and think of ways to illustrate my feelings to the world.
i guess the world is lucky i have self-control. that's all it really comes down to, in the end.

I've been diagnosed as a psychopath as well..and you don't see me running around putting guns in peoples faces asking if they believe in god......i mean if you did....the passion of christ would have made like 4.73 at the box office.

To me, the entire situation was useless to the point of being silly.

At the time, I had - like any other person who'd been shat upon in high school - considered such an act, and discarded it as a waste of time.

After studying the art of war, via the Book, and the Action - thank you, blessed J.R., thank you - far more than these stupid children, I finally came to the conclusion that it wouldn't make a damn bit of difference. People will continue to be stupid, whether under the influence of guerilla tactics or no. Thermite or no thermite.

Morons will continue to breed at an accelerated rate.

The best way to hurt them, is to become better than them at their own game. Become their bosses. The people who control their futures. And then eliminate said futures, by either terminating the lack of intelligence, or terminating their chances of survival.

Remember, the R.S.M.C. shall dominate this planet. By one synapse at a time, if need be.

Well, psychopath, is a word that gets thrown out alot, but by defination, I don't see X as one. Simply because your concious would catch up with you.

I found the most intresting part to be, that what would of happened, if he hadn't been, a shitty bomb maker, or more importantly, what if he would of waiting longer. Let his hate, and SKILLS develop? Think of what he could of been capable of?

WEll, the one kid was a pussy, and got picked on. Who cares life goes on. However, the one I was talking about was actually well known, and considered a "nice guy." That's why I was intrested. Dahmer was considered a good kid in school, minus his grdaes, very few displine problems at school. However, his psycopathic patterns developed, as best known, at the age of 8 when he brought back road kill to his house for the first time, and he disceted it. My nephew has a facination with death and he only 6. However, my sister watches him very carefully, and gives him a lot of attention, in case he might be beginning a homocidal pattern. You feel for parents like that, who have to wonder if their kid is gonna end us as a serial killer.

i think being fascinated with death is only natural. especially if the child has recently experienced first hand, whether it being a person, pet or houseplant. it is part of the life cycle. now, if he started showing other disturbing behaviors, when i would be concerned.

karin is fascinated with fire. she often pretends her barbies homes are on fire, but when she was 2, our home burned down. but i don't think its a sign she will become an arsonist.

if a child seems to have troubles of any sort, i think the biggest key to let them know they are loved and that they have the fullest support of parents, family and other people who care.
