No Ed Wood? F**k Disney

I need to rant a bit here...During the last week in January, Ed Wood, the brilliant Tim Burton film staring Martin Landau and Johnny Depp, was sent to retailers for a Feb 3rd street date. I ordered my copy from my favorite online reatailer, deepdiscountdvd.com , and received an email that my copy shipped on the 30th. What I did not know was that Disney / Buena Vista issued a recall on the 30th to all retailers to return the DVDs for an unannounced reason.

Some retailers did, and some did not. Take a look on Ebay and you will see dozens of copies going for 50.00 to 100.00 each. Disney / Buena Vista has not issued a reason for the recall, nor announced a new release date.

There are 2 speculations I've read about what is going on here:

1) Johnny Depp was nominated for an Oscar, so the studio figures on better sales with a release date closer to the Oscars, and maybe wanting to add a sticker "Oscar nominated Johnny Depp."

2) There is an easter egg deleted scene where Ed Wood and Bela Lugosi are discussing a sequel to Dracula and a pissed off Bela says they cannot do it because those bastards at Universal own the rights. Most people seem to think it was pulled to get rid of that scene so as not to upset Universal.

I hope it is not the later, because that means a whole new pressing of a film Disney / Buena Vista may feel is not worth repressing. What pisses me off the most is not that it was recalled, but that there has been no reason given and no new release date announced. I'd like to know what the fuck is up before droppping fifty bucks down on Ebay....Thanks...I feel better now...

You lucky son of a bitch!!! Where? When? I really don't want to wait another year to get this, but I don't want to pay 50 bucks on Ebay either. Anywho, congrats! You got a great find.

i got it from a bookstore (dont quite know the name....but they sell books, music, and movies) on kingston that had 2 copys when i was there....i got one...not quite sure who got the other....

its not the first time this has happened from that dist. group
they will probably NOT release a statement and just announce a new date in a few months, thats what they have done in the past...
kinda standard.
usually means someone didnt get the rights to something.
if you wanna drop the extra 50 to get the above standard collector props, then fire when ready but if you wanna wait id GUESS it will come back around. thing ive noticed lately is DVDs that companies have reprinted for years... they said fuckit and quit doing it citing its not cost effective.
hope this isnt one of them, but now that Deep has that Oscar nomination its a safe fuckin bet they are holding off on that....
but considering its a fucking Burton movie someone somewhere will reprint it. its not like he doesnt have enough cash and clout to storm the fucking gates on it if so inclined. if you dont see a reason posted in the next two weeks or so though.. its probably gonna be a while and id throw ebay bones.
