Art Forum

If it's not covered by one of those other categories, you should probably talk about it here. Be nice.

I personally don't think it does.

Most of the forums we bitched and moaned to get aren't even used that much...

No, they aren't.

so why annoy the mods with the incessant whining?

There are two major arguments, for and against, that I can think of off-hand:

Pro: It makes searching for a particular thread easier, as you can limit it to one specific forum. Hence, if one is doing a search for a hypothetical thread on drawing people's clothing, they could perhaps enter the search string, "clothing texture", specify the "Gothic Art" forum, and avoid having to manually parse through somene's opinion about some t-shirt's feel from the Gothic Fashion section. Admittedly, I'm reaching in this example. But it's vaguely possible on this island, Earth.

Con: It's more work for the moderators, it's more stress (memory, CPU) on the board software's internal database, it's more bandwidth taken from each time the main listing page is loaded. Yadda. Fucking. Yadda. But mainly it's yet another thing that has to be looked after by the moderators.

Talk about art...in general or in crafty goth...the fucking balance of the universe is not at stake.

Again, this is my personal opinion, but I don't understand why it should have it's own category... yet.

If someone wants to prove that it's necessary, maybe start submitting an assload of posts that are entirely art orientated, like JaNell previously mentioned, and put the word "Art" in the title of the post.

I might however throw a couple of sketches onto the art forum if we get one. You know you want to see my art. ;o)

Yes, I do. So post some in General, and put the word "ART" really big up front.

:D

Another good point.

LOL
I wondered about that...

But you should know by now that, sweet as he is, Vader's opinion varies depending on whose cleavage is in front of him...
(ducks tepid wrath of Vader)

So, are you suggesting we dump the least used forums?

That would be the Gothic Kitchen, with 11 topics & 38 posts and KnoxGothic Fashion with 17 topics & 63 posts (and yes, hair & make-up are part of Fashion).

After that it's a toss-up, depending on topics or posts.

I also have to point out that the artists want the forum - it's the non-artists opposing it. I was enthusiastic about a Crafts forum because people wanted it, even though I'm not a big crafts person.

It's disappointing that so many of you only support things that benefit yourself.

And no, I'm not looking to be the moderator - I was going to nominate Vertigo25 for it.

Well, I'd have to find some pieces I'm no terribly ashamed of, and then get them scanned. *blush*

Nope..I'm just saying that we don't need any new ones.

And I don't see how an art forum (or craft or literary or even automotive) really benefit anyone...unless you are trying to SELL your artwork, which is what our Exchange forum is for. The knowledge of art techniques or artists is good, but I still don't see why it matters where we talk about it at. *shrug*

I do see bandwith being a problem. That and memory. All those images are going to really bog things down. I suppose linking to offsite images would help..

Well, of course we'll be hosting our own images - DV has already explained about gallery space.

When I asked about a gallery, I didn't expect it to host the pictures that we'd post in threads.
