RIAA raid

If it's not covered by one of those other categories, you should probably talk about it here. Be nice.

great.
more lawsuits to bog down the already overloaded "justice" system.
quite the misnomer.
"Legal system" is more accurate.
has nothing to do with right/wrong/justice/fairness.
only who has deeper pockets.

if anyone cares to argue, make sure youve been sued frivously by some asshole w/ too much time and/or money, whos looking for a hobby, before trying to convince me otherwise.

no offence- there are a few decent lawyers out there.
but theyre a dying breed it seems.

i digress-
apple has found a creative way to deal with this issue.
at 99 cents per song its a great idea as theres no "hard" product to distribute. making it easy to purchase the music. tho if you want the extras, you need to still purchase the album. or depending on number of tracks, it may be cheaper to get the CD.

my 2 cents.
..well, i'm off to raid the wishing well at the mall for the other .97 to purchase 99 redbaloons..
derk.

Emusic has an even better pricing scheme that has been in place for a couple of years now. 10 bucks a month, unlimited downloads. Of course, the nice thing about the Apple deal is that you don't have to commit.

The thing that upsets me is that so many labels are still dragging their feet on electronic distribution. Complete stupidity. But they seem to be coming around.

I just wish more artists would use this as the first real opportunity to become truly independent. Of, course, we, the audience have been convinced for years that if our entertainment isn't filtered by a publisher, record label, network executive, etc., it must be crap. The idea that getting a record deal or getting published is somehow validation that an artist is good is completely bogus. Just as bogus as the idea that if you self publish, you must not be very good.

It's always bothered me that there are so many truly great writers, performers, and artists out there who are not getting recognition because they aren't 'marketable'. Well, now you can get your work out there yourself, and the cost isn't prohibitive. The media companies hate that idea. They realize that if Britny Spears was doing it all on her own, they wouldn't get their cut. (Good example BTW, Britny is 'marketable', not 'good')

I dunno... there's lot's more I have to say about all this, but I'm not really in the mood right now.
The firemen came and broke through the chimney top. And me and Mom were expecting them to pull out a dead cat or a bird. And instead they pulled out my father. He was dressed in a Santa Claus suit. He'd been climbing down the chimney... his arms loaded with presents. He was gonna surprise us. He slipped and broke his neck. He died instantly. And that's how I found out there was no Santa Claus.

I have a lot of opinions on this ...

Filesharing is a mixed bag. It's good, in that it introduces you to bands you might otherwise not hear of ... and it's bad, in that certain independent label bands really need the CD sales and if someone downloads the album as opposed to buying it, it hurts them more than it would, say, hurt an N*SYNC or a Britney Spears.

So my personal opinion is, I will use Kazaa or whatever to sample new music, or to find out of print music impossible to buy anymore, but where possible, if I like it, I will buy the CD. It's only fair.

Having said that ... what RIAA is doing is plain wrong, and it is going to backfire on them big time. They will soon alienate all music lovers out there, and then they will be shooting themselves in the foot with this strategy.

This is going to get very nasty.
