read the article in the metropulse went and checked out the band
here good stuff thought others might give a listen to some to knoxville flavored dark music. If you like nick cave you'll probobly like this.

My friend Scott Trowbridge is in that band....they rock.

His old band Sunday School did some bluegrass covers of nifty songs like ones by NIN etc.

I personally love his acoustic version of "skulls" by the misfits.

I'll add my own recommendation here, if you like stuff of that ilk, definitely check out the Handsome Family. They're a husband-and-wife band that do really dark murder ballads and such; their official site is here:

My favorite of theirs so far is the album "In the Air," which is lyrically brilliant, and was amazingly enough recorded on their computer in their living room. I believe they have some (officially-released, legally-downloadable) mp3s online. They have a beautiful murder ballad called "Arlene" (off the album "Odessa" which is otherwise not really one of my favorites) about a man who falls in love with a diner waitress, kidnaps her, and winds up killing her in a cave. Er, beautiful i guess if you aren't disturbed by that sort of subject matter....

Glad to hear that blackgrass is going over well.

I've played a bit of music with christian and I love his violin style reminds me a lot of the Dirty three.

I've heard the first Demo's but haven't got there current cd as of yet, something to look forward to

That sounds really cool. Some of the old English and Scottish murder ballads are both brutal and surreal (Long Lankin, for example), and I've always had a strange fascination for this kind of thing.

Was talking with my buddy Adam today about Hayseed Dixie and there covers of metal/rock stuff. Then we got to wondering why metal/rock bands didn't cover old bluegrass stuff.

Then we realized that most metal / rock artists aren't really talented like most of the bluegrass musicians we know. Yeah they may play the guitar and bass and drums. But they don't play the fiddle, the banjo, the dulcimer, the mandolin, the upright bass, harmonica, spoons, and the jug, along with the guitar, bass, and some other precussion insturment.
