Ok, CNN aired a story on this study, but I'm seeing multiple issues with their methods & was curious what you guys thought. I'm not a gamer myself, but Need For Speed isn't one that I would operationally define as nonviolent. Car crashes are very violent, in my opinion. Plus the number of subjects was too small & the researchers should of used a more varied selection of games. Throw in some Mario or Tetris & see what you get. Here's the article:

Violence & gaming
Change how you see, not how you look.
I play GTA and never once thought hey lets go on a shooting rampage.People that claim video games made them shoot people need to be drug out in the street and beaten. On the same note i play nascar games but that doesnt mean i get on the interstate and trade paint with other cars. The video game defense is retarted i say.
pretty by nature evil by design
ya know...they have been doing this shit since the original nintendo. Always looking for excuses to point fingers at for crime...instead of pathetic parenting. As a counter to this article...remember the one where Amsterdam opened a video game rehab center? Drug abuse statistics rose....lol. have been playing video games....expecially violent gorey ones....and I have not killed anyone that didn't already deserve it.

“That proves you are unusual, returned the Scarecrow; and I am convinced the only people worthy of consideration in this world are the unusual ones. For the common folks are like the leaves of a tree, and live and die unnoticed.â€
"Our study suggests that playing a certain type of violent video game may have different short-term effects on brain function than playing a nonviolent, but exciting, game," said Dr. Vincent Mathews, a professor of radiology at Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis and the study's author.
i can dig it.
i play moderate-to-extremely violent games, usually after spending admittedly too much time coding and/or working my brain around a particularly difficult problem. it helps me relax, and oftentimes when i resume the coding and/or problem solving, i feel refreshed and have a more positive perspective on the situation at hand.
i don't see anything wrong with this, at all.
of course, i understand the concept of cause and effect, action and consequence, and that if you kill a person, they stay dead*; there's no reset button in life.
maybe if parents and doctors spent more time on ingraining these concepts into their children, there wouldn't be an issue with violent games. i mean, there are plenty of violent (and ultra-violent

so let's all make sure that kids are brought up safe; let's ban and burn all movies, games, and books, and make children pretend to be content staring at a wall all day. hell, for that matter, let's do the same with adults; you never know when one of them is going to turn out to be overly impressionable.
* at least, they do if you've done the job correctly.

i don't recall eminem being blamed, though that's not surprising, since they blamed a lot of people / bands / gremlins.
i do recall kmfdm being blamed, though.
