Destruction of 11th St. Patio For A PARKING GARAGE
Destruction of 11th St. Patio For A PARKING GARAGE
Kinsey Probasco & Associates / Cardinal Management Begin Destruction Of 11th St. Back Patio Tuesday Morning
According the a flunkie from Cardinal Realty who was measuring and poking around the 11th St. patio this afternoon, they begin demolition of everything from the edge of the back porch (including the steps, half of the back porch of the Art & Antique house, and the trees) Tuesday morning.

They're the local handlers on this project for Kinsey Probasco & Associates, who won the bid for the Victorian Houses & Candy Factory.

Here's a few reasons why Kinsey Probasco & Associates' plan of building a parking garage against our back door is a short-sighted and ill-planned idea:
The dark alley effect
Possible damage to the foundations of 1016 Laurel (11th St. Victorian House) and our neighbor victorian house.
Loss of a popular public space that seen many weddings, birthday parties, fencing matches, swing dancing nights, and lazy warm afternoon and evening coffees.
Blocking the trolley stop access.
Blocking the view from many spots, including the Candy Factory. Who wants to buy a condo that looks out over a parking garage, as opposed to one that looks out over a park area?
Bad, bad PR.

Varies of course, but the cheapest we could ever find was Knox Flair apartments, off N. Broadway St. ... They were $320/mo. furnished, 1 bedroom, but not the greatest living conditions... i'd say the price has risen a bit though, considering that was maybe... 2-3 years ago?

A word of warning, Knoxville isn't cheap!!
True. But its still one of the top cheapest in the nation for a meropolitan area.
11th street...........that sucks. Spent alot of time there back in the day. Miss the fencing.

Knoxville is expensive in comparison to Oak Ridge, Maryville and small country towns, but like darkelf said, if you compare it to other US cities we have a crazy low cost of living.
A 2 bedroom in San Fran is something like 1500 I believe.
I have a 2 bedroom house with a yard and a big kitchen, living room and basement for 495 a month, and I could get a 2 bedroom in Ktown for 475 or a 3 bedroom for 515. If you think of all the gas I'd save it'd make it worth it.
Sometimes they run specials...and you can get a 2 bedroom for under 500 but not too often I don't think.

...a couple of years ago I did a cost-comparison between NY,Knoxville,LA & San Fran. The data that I used was from the Census, various gov. websites and other statistical analysis sources. The reason was, a marketing company that I worked for (based in LA) wanted me to leave the Knoxville market and run the San Fran market. I costed them all for a few reasons. LA was where they were from. San Fran was where they wanted me to live. Knoxville, from current payrate/cost of living...and NY because its usually the highest....so I thought. San Fran was the highest in the nation. NY then LA. Knoxville being one of the lowest in the nation. For me to move to San Fran, they would have had to pay my 4x what I made here to stay @ the same quality of life....and 2x what they were making in LA. They were only offering me a 100% payrase to live in a place that cost 4x my current income. In essence, I would have been taking a %50 paycut...so clearly I turned them down. The client they had didnt renew thier contract the next year...so I would have been stuck out there after getting laid off. Good Lord.
