What is amazing to me is that these so-called cHristians don't see the inherent contradiction between their beliefs and practices. A major tenet of the religion is "Thou Shalt Not Kill" and yet basic training in every branch of the armed forces trains soldiers with the physical means and psychological capacity to kill. They are saying "if you don't believe, you will burn in hell, but it's OK that we are teaching you how to kill"

Vetustatem novitas, Umbram fugat veritas, Noctem lux eliminat.
I imagine Jesus would forgive you for killing in the name of self-defense/protecting your country.*
This isn't an issue of Christianity being hypocritical, it's an issue of our military wrongly incorporating religion into the program.
*I'm not saying what we're doing in Iraq and in other countries is right.

If she were a street gang, I'd go to war with her with bottles and chains.
you do realise that in the army forces the have muslims and jews and along with that they have chaplins oh jeez why do i bother i am offended by this whole thread as what i am as a non practiing christan i feel was attacked but thats cool (goes off to get ready for monday night raw)
pretty by nature evil by design
You should also be well informed that, just as in America, it is not a one religion nation-state. My former boss was from Jordan and she is Roman Catholic...Also, the bible does have a little bit in there about killing to preserve your way of life. Just as in all religions, you should not base your title for all peoples of a religion, or nation state by the opinions of a few...They do not speak for every single individual on every issue, and they alsoare not controlled as to what they can and cannot say on the internet for all to read.

bingo
exactly what i was thinking
just because you dont like the religion, when people use it for an excuse to push their bullshit BLAME THE PEOPLE.. in this case the military.
id say that about any religion, but most people blame christianity for everything in life because they used to be into it, life is fucked up, they blamed it on god, and never realized having a religion OF ANY SORT will never stop life from being fucked up...

yea life's fucked if you let it be..seems a religion or faith of somekind is what keeps it from being so bloody horrible..I can only speak for myself here but I do think we need a seperation of church and state...my way is not yours and vicey versey so whatever faith you use as some part of the training is gonna draw fire from people who wont look past the surface..A problem I know plenty about...I understand that the first thing you need to arm a soldier with is the justness of there cause but as was said earlier there are many diffrent types of people who think its a good idea to stand up on behalf of our country so with just a tiny bit of imagination some new means of inspiration could be thought up instead of one nation under god...I love being an american but it aint got shit to do with a nation under god...Im free here..as free as a person gets anymore anyways so my pride is based on that and other things..not one religious note in my sense of patriotism...pride in american prosperity and freedom but something all of us need to realize is it will take a long time for this to change...a complete overturning of Lex Talons is gonna take awhile to acheive so in the meantime just deal with it...I understand how constricting it is sometimes..I honestly do..but all of use who have issue with it are doing something to change it right?
and yea if I believed in god I would most definatly think he was a risk player......

i agree with the idea of seperation of church and state
religion becomes opiate at that level, totally loses its purity.

Only through destruction, do we find purity...The only purity that is left in this world...Is a worldly void...Nothing is sacred...Let's not pretend it is...If this is, indeed, 'One Nation, Under God'...Than I don't want Heaven...

One word. Job.
Go read that book of the bible and you will see many things. One...God is DEFINETLY a rick player. Two...Christianity is anything but pure, and Three... It's only once we've lost everything, that we are free to do anything...espicially be humble.

Humility? Not my style...and you dont have to lose a fucking thing to be free to do anything..you can do anything right now...makes it easier todo anything if you havent lost it all most people lose it all and give up...sounds great right? Unfortunatley when most people give up it dosent turn into cool fight scenes in the bottom of a pub...its turns into your local trailer park...Dont get me wrong, cool movie and all but some idea of "poverty as empowerment" is bullshit...and its funny to me that the people who promote some of the ideas that movie offers are the ones who have the least experience with that sorta life...Im not attacking anyone on this forum but who is gonna promote the idea of being broke and living in a shitty house? Granted the fighting is pretty cool probably the only thing I actually miss from those days but unless your actually out blowing up the right buildings then youve just made yourself a bum...as far as christianity being "pure" well its and idea before its a book or a military training device so if you represent it in a "pure" way(I dont quite get the idea of purity sounds to much like Arian nation speeches) then its pure in your case...but yea if you combine it with goverment then you lose the individual freedom of religion..so youve comprimised the religious idea and a personal freedom..fucks up both religion and goverment at the same time....
