Christian Goth

If it's not covered by one of those other categories, you should probably talk about it here. Be nice.

Much like the Gay Republican, Military Intelligence, and Gemini Virgin, you're part of a mysterious netherworld that merges the real into the unreal.. The Oxymoron Zone.. While it's not to say there aren't others in existance, they're more or less as rare as Roc's Teeth. Good luck in your search though.

I have to disagree with you strongly. I am not a christian, but I probably know more dark and spooky christians than I do pagans.

I don't see how christian and gothic are oxymorons whatsoever. The lifestyle doesn't revolve around religion really. Its more about fashion and music and looking at the darker side...which without there being a darker side, how can there be a lighter side?

Catholicism is very goff.
Paradise Lost, Dante's Inferno, and lots of other literature are along a gothic vein, IMO.

So, yeah...I'm sure you will find lots of your kind, not neccessarily fundamentalist Xtians however.

The founders of the site which may not be named for example, are both active in their church.

big deal. your a christian and your goth. happy for ya.
im a fan of the pre-roman-catholic era of christianity, and thats my 2 cents of what i believe, but outside of that man i hate this debate
i see it alot.
BIG DEAL
you a christian, and your goth. and your someones child. and maybe you have a job.
THEY ARE ALL JUST ROLES.
all just shit thats a piece of who you are.
never let one of these pieces dominate you and be happy with who you are.
if your a crazy bastard half the time and a preacher the rest, cheers to you.
if your a drug addict and a bus driver, then maybe you have some conflicting roles.
heres a strange one, most of the goths i know... in some form or fashion.. have a religion.. and the majority of them.. are christian... and they are all still shocked... proving that no matter how open minded you are... you can still fall victim to the views of culture norm and stereotype.
now my punk friends... ironically enough.. i think i know one christian in that bunch... thats the one that gets me. i mean the ideas jesus preached at the time were a complete 180 from the cultural norm... thus by definition making him one of the original punks. plus that whole water to wine thing but thats another bag completely.
Jesus was way to happy a guy to strike me owning a cure album, but hell ya never know.
but your scene type tastes in life (music, clothes, whatever) and your religion don't have to conflict at all.
thats just what extremist members of either role (because i do know goths that for some STUUUUUUUUPID reason says you cant be both) push on people to make more people either be like them or make the entire world hate them or whatever their dark lil desire is.......
all joking aside, cheers to you having a religion and something your into.. hope youve got alot more interests in life... and when people say you cant be a christian in goth tell them that JC says:
congrats, you call victim to accepting mass marketed cultural norms....
and what are the first letters of cultural .........
CULT.

good luck in your search, it shouldnt be too hard, and i hope the best for you.
and as far as the catholic thing go, yea i agree with tangledwebs and buttercup on this one. alot of my favorite "goth type lit" is rooted right out of catholics.
jc, signing off.

Hey, J.C I liked what you said it was really in your face and to the point and like LadyIvanna said your Intelligence rokkkks. Yeah I do have a lot more interests in my life then just being a CHristian goth. I know I didn't do to great a job introducing my self in the new comers section I'll do a better intro later for those who care. The reason why I started the Christian Goth post wasn't to start a debate, I'm new to the Knoxville area, I joined KnoxGothic cause I want to meat other goths in the area and did the Christian goth post cause I also want to meet some christian goths.

Actually some number of our members are christians, some are not. It really shouldn't matter. Why you ask? Because everyones personal faith is just that... personal. And thats the way it should stay. Anything more and it becomes one more big drama-causing arguement. See the big thing about us is that we're very accepting until the drama ensues. So just don't cause drama and we'll all get along fine.

Immortal_Souls,

I'm a mystic Christain. I have a degree in Hermetics, which includes ceremonial magick, tarot, qabala, astrology and the like. I also attended many years of seminary in an eastern orthodox Christian church (that pre-roman Christianity JC was going on about) and received training in healing from both groups. For me, experience trumps belief every time and I've had many experiences with healing, death, communicating with the dead, visions, psychism, prophetic dreams, etc. It doesn't matter who believes in what when the experience comes around. I've talked to many Christians in KG, there are at least eight of us that I could name (tho I won't - privacy first and all that) and I'm sure there are many more. Come on out to Black Coffee at 11th. St. Expresso House on any given Friday evening and I'm sure there will be some good discussion.

Jeeze.. Noone can spot a bad joke anymore..

Now, just a couple points to make. Alot of devout Protestants, expecially the Southern Baptist variety, actually don't accept Catholicism as a Christian religion. The point out the worship of Mary, and the many paganistic belief structures that were incorperated by the Romans into the Christian belief structure draw far too much emphasis away from Jesus, and are not within the teachings of their Book.

So yeah, I guess that makes Catholics the Gothest sort of Christians. That and the anal sex thing.

While I've no degrees to speak of, and I haven't attended a Christian ceremony in years, that doesn't mean I don't have faith. Beliefs I lack. Faith I have in abundance. Ideas, maybe one or two. And here I am a registered minister in my Church. As Junkie noted, that's merely a role. Merely a title, to be used when appropriate, but in the end.. It's what I do that counts, not what I'm called. People will know you by your actions, your feelings, the experiences and emotions you share with them. Simply labeling yourself in tidy little words just invokes sterotypes. And some sterotypes don't necessarily mesh readily, which can be fine for an opening to expand on, but when left to their own devices.. Can result in some possibly cynical remarks that thankfully were not openly shared. So, I guess my point is.. Lable yourself all you want, but if you want people to notice, care, or think.. Give us a little insight into how those lables apply to you, how you see yourself, and in the end, what you're looking for.

It'll help :)

Ok, the reason why I asked is that i'm sorta new to Knoxville & know no one yet and I was just looking for some that share the same interest as me, I mean being Christian and goth I know that once I start getting around that I'll meet some people and make some friends that aren't CHristian and thats cool, but it would be great to have some friends that also share the same religion as me also. , the reason I asked wasn't to tread on anyones personal faith and I don't want to start any drama. I certainly apprriceate all you guys responding to my post I do plan on coming out to black coffee at 11th st. expresso house some time and even to Sanctus sometime although I can't dance at all, LOL. I go to a southern baptist church but like LordHades said thats just a label I certainly don't think that you have to be a southern baptist to be a Christian all you need is a personal relationship in Jesus Christ. I know some of you might not agree with me and thats ok. I'm not here to force my religion on any one I'm not the type of person that goes around preaching to everyone that they are going to hell or any thing like that but I'm not ashamed to label my self a Christian Goth and i'd rather let people see a difference in me and ask me about my beliefs. I hope all that makes cense, I'm not very good with verbally expressing my self

Just to throw in my two cents: I was raised independant fundamental southern baptist...and my dad is a preacher. I still attend services and am a member in that kind of church. However I don't always agree with what's being taught or whatever. So the point is, as has already been said, the labels don't matter. But just because you asked, yes, I'm also a christian goth. I'm just a fairly laid back one.

Christian reporting in! Yep, that's right...I'm one of "them" and proud of it. BUT I won't ever force my views or opinions on anyone else. As I've always told all my friends (regardless of religion), it's much too personal of a decision for me to chastise anyone's opinion.

Wise words, though an atheist myself I generally don't want to call others out for their beliefs, as long as they're hurting no one else through them. I find religious faith to be very much a personal matter, and you never can convince anyone else of your beliefs without very long term exposure and discussion, and at that point the person trying to change someone else's mind is as likely to get their mind changed. =)
