Something for a stormy day.

TwoXTwo

Noah was a good man,
And Noah rode the flood,
And all the others perished,
Drowned in flesh and blood.
Violence and corruption,
Sent the wrath of God,
But what I’ve learned from all of this,
May be rather odd.
It’s not that God was vengeful,
Or that, with us, was through,
It’s that he told kind Noah,
Take them, two by two.
He’s made us male and female,
He’s made us sage and fool,
He’s made us incomplete,
And that, to me, seems cruel.
And Noah had the onus,
Of choosing all the pairs,
And no offspring would issue,
In any case he’d erred.
But Noah made his choices,
Man, and fowl, and beast,
And seems to have mated them quite well,
We’re all still here, at least.
I wonder how he did it,
Finding perfect pairs?
Even once this has elluded me,
And filled me with despair.
So when I look around me,
At all that lives and breathes,
And loves, and dreams of love to be,
This gives my heart some ease.
Noah found a soulmate,
For everything alive,
Two by two they rode the worst,
And two by two they thrived.
Two by two appears to me,
The strongest message here,
So I walk alone, ‘neath stormy skies,
And search for you, my dear.
“A gem cannot be polished without friction, nor a man perfected without trials.â€
