Just in the poetic mood.

All's fair...

What is fair, in love in war,

What fortunes come to pass,

Comes from those adjoined in battle,

Striving to the last.

But when Ares' lust is slaked,

And Athena's peace has come,

The ruin lies in the sun and bakes,

And no one here has won.

So, dear General, set your course,

And lash you, to your mast,

And let not the sirens, tempt you, draw you,

And crush you with the past

Just wanted to say I liked this poem a lot. It is not everyday you see someone write and use the names of greek gods and goddesses in their poems. I love greek mythology. Yes I am a dork. But anyway, great job thank you for sharing.

Thank you, glad you liked it. I've been a big fan of the Greek mythos since I was a child and I'm glad to know others see the imagery there. The other poem i posted under just some musings also has a Greco/Roman theme, Vulcan/Hephaestos creating a woman in spite of the pure/cruel aspect of divine "love" he is entwined with. Love in his image, not hers, but still, though he is the creator, his creation is beyond him, as though he yearns for love, he does not wish to control it and has made/brought about something that can either free him, or destroy him. A weapon from which he, the master smith, has no defense. The lastest one I posted came to me one night, actually all of my poetry comes to me all at once, and has more of a biblical theme.
