For those of you who saw or were accosted by a dirty-clothed dual-hat wearing man with a cardboard box of flowers, answer me this... (poll)

flower
I'm with Buttercup, I think. That's been a staple around here since the '80s. Hell, an ex-girlfriend of mine and a bunch of her buddies used to sell flowers up and down the Strip, Old City and Downtown and generated a decent side-income from it. Plus, there's one guy (I don't know if it's the same one referenced here) who's been at it nonstop since at least '95. It's his job, basically.

yup
I know the guy you're talking about. I've watched him sell flowers around the old city since 1996. I'm pretty sure he steals flowers from graves in the cemetary to sell them. Everyone's gotta eat, I suppose.

I too know that guy and I know of others. I'm with Buttercup.
A night in the OC without someone 1. trying to bum money, 2. sell you flowers is just not a good night in the OC.
Anyone remember the "Good Ol' Boys" or whoever those guys who wore no shirts, wranglers, and work gloves around the OC? I only saw them once or twice early in my OC career but I understood that they were a staple up until I started going down there with any regularity.

Ok...there is no way those flowers could be from graves, they don't commonly put long stemmed roses and carnations on graves, they usually use silk or if the funeral was recent, they are wreaths that have cut flowers attached, but not with such long stems I don't think
Try the trash behind a florist's maybe...which is quite smart I think to use other's waste and make money.

Believe it or not, I think he actually buys the roses in bulk from florists and them marks them up for individual sale. I'm not at all sure he's a homeless guy -- more like one of the perennial Ft. Sanders dwellers who pretty much live a fringe existence and just don't like having a boss or "regular" job. And no -- there's no way he's stealing those from gravesites.
