Advice from you Mums

I know there are a lot of mums out there, and I was wondering if I could get some advice. Being a first time mum with no real family here with me, I sometimes feel like I am poking around in the dark.

I have a 16 month old little girl and I am curious about the whole potty training thing, any hints or pointers you have come accross I would appreciate

I'm not a mum but I have been through the potty training issue with my daughter Madeline. The main thing I can suggest is to make a game of it and encurage her through explaining to her that "big girls" use the potty and "big girls" get to do "big girl" things. You see where I am going?

I know it's not that simple but it is a start.

I got a bunch of little party favors and but them in a box. Everytime my son or daughter go to the potty, I will let them pick a "treasure" from the "treasure box".

with our daughter, we praised her alot. but did not scold her for having accidents. also when we were at home, she wore big girl undies instead of pull-ups.

When I worked at a daycare, we would take the children to the bathroom every hour and sit on the potty while we read a book. For my own daughter, we made sure she knew how to use a potty, but didn't push things, then I finally one night told her "mommy is tired of changing diapers, when you get up in the morning, you are gonna use the potty" and she did, she had less than a dozen accidents during the whole process (we only use pull ups at night). Don't know how well that would work with most kids tho. The other thing we did was picked up a set of dishes she was begging for and kept them on top of the fridge (in sight, but out of reach) untill she was completely potty trained.

if ya throw in some fruit loops and tell her to try to hit them....they think it's fun

my kids liked that.

I spent a year and a half tyrying to potty train my lil brother (my parents traveled alot) so until I used the fruit loops everything else failed. Then He was trasined in like 2 weeks.

I've probably told you enough of my stories, but Laura wasn't trained until she was 3. She kept saying, all through her second year, "not until I'm 3." It was frustrating, but seemed reasonable, so I held her to it. When she turned 3, I reminded her of her bargain, she accepted that it was time, & within a matter of a very few days, she was potty trained!

Now, boys are a totally different story... don't get me started! :roll:

Anyway, try all the different tips. They make some really cool little potty books that she would probably love. But above all else, be patient. 16 months is still little. From what you've told me already, she seems well on her way. Keep up the good work, Mom!

Bastet reminded me of another game, I would use with my son, called sink the sailboat! lol Just draw a sailboat on a piece of toiletpaper. Make it fun! I also tell them not to pee or poopy on their undie characters cuz thats not very nice! :lol:

I always like to hear everyone's stories, plus it reminds me not to
push too hard, but also not to give up either. I know she is still
little and I have some time still, but it never hurts to be prepared, thanx for all the advice
