25 Reasons We Love Old School Goth

Post by Bone »

Stolen from White_Darkness over on NashvilleGothic
This should make a few of you old schoolers giggle.
Side note some of these IMHO arn't very Old School But then again I am :old:

1. Better music hands-down, and Fields of the Nephilim is STILL together. *grin*
2. Being able to be _yourself_ first and goth second.
3. You don't have to worry about melting/fading/cracking/dying if you get rained on or are exposed to sunlight.
4. When someone talks about Ye Olde Days, the room doesn't instantly vaporize in a cloud of angst.
5. DIY fashion!!
6. Being able to show the world that yes, white foundation can be worn very well.
7. Medieval architecture.
8. An unseverable connection with the 80's.
9. People able to verbally trounce their detractors in ten seconds. Without cursing.
10. Seeing and knowing that Marilyn Manson was just an entertainer, not the Antichrist or some flashy new demigod.
11. Being able to wear a pentacle without yelling "HAIL SATAN!!" every five minutes.
12. Three words: intelligent Livejournal conversations.
13. Two words: Fat Bob.
14. One word: black. (Not pastel pink ... black.)
15. Boots that you can actually stand up and dance in.
16. Having the satisfaction of knowing that you really _did_ grow all that hair by yourself.
17. Poetry can still be used as an avenue of expression without looking tacky.
18. Peter Murphy!
19. People who say they speak three or more languages can form a coherent sentence in each one.
20. Suddenly hearing your lover screaming out in three or more languages during sex.
21. Winkle pickers.
22. Aqua Net.
23. The New Romanticism connection.
24. 18th century fashion ... because it has always been extremely beautiful.
25. Sarcasm, practical jokes, and humour in general.

That's what I am saying. I'm not goth. I love pink and yellow way too damn much. Both of which are my favorite colors.

Yes, but you also like Zelda, so you're still cool.

I like it but I suck at it now. I wish I could play as well as I could when I was young playing on an old skook Nintendo. I am so clueless now.

Nintendo?!! That is SOOOO late 80's!

Atari 2600 is where it's all at, man! I remember getting one as a christmas present in 1981 after my parents paid $200 for it! Those were the days ...

I got my first Atari when Nintendo was getting big. It was, I think , 89. I loved the hell out of that Atari too. The Nintendo I got was used. Then I moved on to Sega Genesis. Now I have my lovely little Gamecube. It's so cute.

It always amazes me the lack of goths on a board called knoxGOTHIC.

"No, I'm not goth."

"No, not me either."

"I don't like to define myself by a word."

"I'm just me. I'm too unique and to much of an individual like everyone else to label myself."

:P Silly gothlings.

My favorite is #18.

I tore my mom's house apart a couple of years ago trying to find our old Atari cause I wanted to play pong. unfortunately she sold it in a yardsale a few years earlier.

So should we change the board from knoxgothic to knotgothic?
Is it that they fear the pain of death, or could it be they fear the joy of life?

I am fortunate, I was able to get ahold of an Atari 2600 emulator and a few ROM's ... Now I am back in Atari-land again. Ohh absolute heaven! :)

I still have the old games and the Atari, I just need to find a power supply and an RF modulator and I am back in biz.
