Brown Recluse Season, Again

If it's not covered by one of those other categories, you should probably talk about it here. Be nice.

Brown Recluse Season, Again

Post by JaNell »

A few of you know that I was bit by a brown recluse between my toes last summer, then again between two other toes a few months later, and the flesh eating away and oozing and pain and whatnot...

Anyway, guess what I have on my right calf?

Two bug bites that have a bruise area 1 1/2" - 2" in diameter around them, and hey what fun, one of them is hot, has an open hole with a white edge and a dark center, and the whole thing is raised with a red line running from it.

Yeah me.

Why do spiders love me so?

Sorry to hear that, JaNell. Erin had a nasty one a few weeks ago. The couple of times I've been bit by spiders were both on my cheek, just below the right eye. It takes a long time to heal from their corrosive acid venom. I fuckin' hate spiders, except for daddy-longlegs, which eat other spiders, and even they are creepy. Spiders don't scare me, mind you. It's just that they are really creepy- not gothy creepy, but Haitian leper-style creepy. I say kill 'em all.

Spiders are one of the few creatures on this planet which I refuse to eat.

That's saying something.

Um, I got bit by that spider about 3 months ago, darling.

Something bit my ass (well, really, right below my waist, but I like to say it bit my ass...more people should do that) when I was sitting under a tree at Cherokee Park watching the mens fence. The bite is still there. Yummy.

Should I be insulted that you won't eat something that likes eating me?

Shoot! I'd be willing to pay at least two packs of Djarum Blacks to see that.

We have them all over the place here. They live inside the walls. Usually I try to smash first & ask questions later, but sometimes they turn on you, & they're fairly fast!

That's when you beat a hasty retreat, only to come back armed with an aerosol can & a lighter.

Anyway, I'm sorry they like you so much, JaNell! Watch for egg sacks in the webs so you can avoid the problem getting any worse than it already is.

*shudder*

Sometimes I actually *do* advocate the extinction of a species. These ugly things have just beaten out fleas and TV evangelists for the #2 spot.

eeek I just realize I have seen these monsters. I usually let the yellow ones live in my door frame and toss out any I find inside but there might have to be a exicution order put out for anymore found inside.

The bad bite may be healing (crosses fingers) and I may only be left with a really cool cat's eye scar on my calf.

Nature gave me a tatoo once, my face but she must have been new at it she didnt do so well. Now she keeps trying to remove it but being the blind old bat that she is she keeps trying to rub it off on top of my head.

traveller - we have a lot of nice benign spiders in this state too
don't kill yours unless you see it is actually a recluse..... the eyes are the big giveaway - yours might be yellow garden spiders or just tree spiders - they are great killers of mosquitoes and flys

I like spiders... snakes too.

I have nothing against spiders and snakes, as long as they are not the venomous kind (brown recluse, black widow, rattlesnakes, copperheads, that sort of thing) ... in fact, spiders do a service by eating nasty flies and mosquitoes that otherwise might do bad things ... same with snakes and mice/rats. I guess I see that every creature was put on this planet for a reason, and that certainly includes arachnids and ophidians.

I agree...they are here, hell, they've been here longer than us...

As I tell my son, "they're just trying to eat and get food for their babies, and reproduce like the rest of us".

I try to never kill bugs...I just don't like to. I don't see why mankind has this constant war against nature. We're not gonna win...only cause our own demise.

Anybody know of a way I can bug bomb a 100+ year old 3,200 sq ft house for $10 or less?
