Contest: How Stale?

If it's not covered by one of those other categories, you should probably talk about it here. Be nice.

Contest: How Stale?

Post by Caustic »

Athan Maroulis kicks ass, and if you don't know who he is, you don't deserve to be listening to underground music. That's background enough.

In an interview from a few years back, Mr. Maroulis voiced some of the same concerns which have been aired repeatedly here.

Unfortunately, even though the scene is close to my heart, it is so based on clothes and makeup that it will never be taken seriously by the powers that be. It is a scene that is its own worst enemy, but then again, Industrial suffers from that as well...

Both Gothic and Industrial suffer from most people in the scene only wanting to hear what they already know...

Whether it is Mariah Carey or NIN, most people want what they already know. Both Gothic and Industrial have been around for years, and in one form or another, they will be with us for years to come. A catch 22 is easily seen here. The scenes refuse to grow and adapt. That is what keeps them down, but it is exactly the same thing that keeps them alive.

This from somebody who's firmly within "the scene."

Now, for some competition, can anyone else find an artist voicing similar ideals even earlier? I want to see how far back this goes.

And, in ten years, we'll want to listen to the music which is coming out now....... All of it was new at some point in the past.
Duct tape is like 'The Force'. It has a light side and a dark side, and it holds the universe together.
