flu? bronchitis? taburculosis? plague?

If it's not covered by one of those other categories, you should probably talk about it here. Be nice.

Ok. If the flu mutated and evolved since its birth as soon as you caught it you'd be dead.

The only reason people die from it is chance. Some fluke thing that made that person vulnerable. There are 280 Million people in this country, if 25,000 die from it MAYBE I'll consider it a problem. You see a few cases of it killing on the news....well....it's the news....it covers the entire country. Of course you're going to hear about it. That's the only reason the news is there, to scare you into consumption. "Murder, A.I.D.S, floods, rape, flu, earthquakes, terrorism" commercials.

Think about this. Has your life changed at all since 9-11?

No.

DON'T GET A FLU SHOT

Mark Twain once said my favorite quote: "It is better to remain silent and have people think you a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt."

Firstly, a virus is never born. It only evolves to meet changing conditions. Much like every other lifeform on this planet. Need proof? Ever have chicken pox twice? Physiological adaptation is the vehicle through which evolutions occurs. This is why Feline AIDS is the current interesting puzzle in Human AIDS research.

By the way...did you know there is a class of Human that it TOTALLY IMMUNE to the aids virus? They all have a unique genetic mutation brought about by being a decendant of a Black Death Survivor

Check my sources:

http://www.findarticles.com/cf_dls/m158 ... icle.jhtml

http://www.pbs.org/wnet/secrets/case_plague/clues.html

Now as far as the whole "25,000 die from it MAYBE I'll consider it a problem. " statement. This just shows your ignorance further. There is a reason for all the Flu scare.

The year was 1918... The Year of the Spanish Influenza.

(By the way, for those ill informed individuals "The Flu" is the shortened name for "Influenza". Like "The Clap" for Gonorrea.)

In New Zealand 8000 people died from Influenza. This was a big deal to them since they are a relatively small nation with sparce population.

http://library.christchurch.org.nz/Chil ... idemic.asp

Which was getting off light since in America 675,000 died from it.

http://www.cviog.uga.edu/Projects/gainfo/1918flu.htm

It was such a bad epidemic that 1918 was the only year in US Census history where the growth in Population went backwards. Population growth for 1917 and 1919 was estimated at about 1.3 million new people. in 1918 it was NEGATIVE 60,000

http://www.census.gov/population/estima ... ockest.txt

As far as how my life has changed since 9-11....

Well....my hair turned blue. (Really! Those of you who know me. Did anybody really notice when?)

....and for the record....I Don't take Flu shots either. My immune system is strong enough not to need suplimentation....30 years from now I might consider it.

Want to hear something weird? Oxygen kills A.I.D.S. in any circumstance immediately. So, if Magic Johnson were to play basketball again and he happened to get knocked down and started to bleed all over the floor, you could drink it with no fear of contracting the virus.

There's an obscene amount of Oxygen in blood and every other bodily fluid.

That is because it is not Oxygen per se that kills the AIDS virus....but the lack of a fluid medium upon which it relies.

I should like to know where you get this somewhat erroneous information. While it is true that anything exposed to extreme amounts any anything will kill something. Amassive dose of Nicotine will kill the virus in the blood....but also kill the patient.

The senarion you describe is far from true. I could be made worse if one were to cut themselves through abrasion whislt rolling around but not much worse than drinking it. Only when the blood dries completely is it relatively safe to handle

Once again...rather than presenting unverified facts....I also provide my source of information.

http://a4esl.org/q/h/in-aids1-bg.html

AIDS is a blood borne Pathogenic Virus....Much like hepatitis variants B and C and can only be transmitted blood to blood. Drinking it might be safe....but only if you could guarantee that you have no pathways to the blood stream as in Bleeding Gums, Bit your cheek, Ulcers....and so forth.

Here is my information on blood borne pathogens and Hepatitis:

http://www.cardiffandvale.wales.nhs.uk/ ... lysis.html

Perhaps if you were to present a slightly better informed opinion, people might take you more seriously.

Yes. It's a lot easier to have someone tell you the answers than to look for them yourself.

Hmmm, two equally valid responses come to mind:

1) Maybe. ;)

2) And a hell of a lot of things I don't talk about, for which many people should be grateful. Thank you and Have A Nice Day.

What you think I pull these things out of my ass?

It took less time to look them up that to write them.

DON'T GET A FLU SHOT

From someone who's written a couple of dozen articles on influenza:
The flu kills an average of 36,000 Americans in a typical year -- roughly the same number who die in traffic accidents. Every generation or two, a new strain emerges that causes what's called a pandemic. As a rule, the number of deaths in the U.S. during pandemics is two or three times the number killed in an average flu season, but there are exceptions. The 1919 flu pandemic, for instance, killed 20 million worldwide and 500,000 in the U.S. (at least 300 in Knoxville alone, in fact, and that's a very conservative estimate -- newspaper clippings from that period are fairly chilling). Knoxville's population was maybe one-sixth of what it is today, so you can imagine what kind of an impact it had.
In the 2000-2001 flu season, nearly 200 Knoxville area residents died from the flu, and that was a normal year.
The lethality of the flu depends on how often a particular strain has circulated. When the general population has developed a resistance to it through repeated exposures, it doesn't kill that many people (usually the old, very young, plus those who are already sick or just plain unlucky). When new strains emerge, however, it is an extremely dangerous virus, and there's not a damn thing modern medicine can do to stop it other than provide supportive therapy (respirators, IV fluids, fever reducers, etc.)
This year's flu wasn't matched to the vaccine, which is one reason why it's making people sicker. It also seems to be causing some unusually severe infections in the very young, including secondary bacteria infections (necrotic pneumonia being the leading culprit at the moment).
As a rule, you don't need to get a flu shot if you're in good health and are in your teens, twenties or thirties. If you've got asthma, a history of bronchitis, or any kind of trouble with your heart, kidneys, liver, etc., then you should have one to guard against complications.
There are no stupid questions, but there are a LOT of inquisitive idiots. -- http://www.despair.com
