if you're talking about "man" as in "humanity" - a notion that is, in and of itself, full of irony at the best of times - well, mankind may have invented the concept, but finding two specimens that agree on a single interpretation of what "good" or "evil" is seems about as likely as finding two that agree on what "religion" is.

the latter Big Idea™ having caused so many wars and deaths, i'm of a mind to believe this world would have been far better off had someone left off with either speculation.

True, I agree, for the most part.......

"Bush noted that some of Abraham Lincoln's strongest supporters were religious people "who saw life in terms of good and evil" and who believed that slavery was evil."

I definitely have to say that slavery is "evil", depending on what kind of slavery it is... ;) Forcing black people to work for you because they're black is just wrong.... but, then again, punishing the people with violence for subjecting black people to slavery could be wrong, too. But really, which would be wrong, the idea or the action? I just define the word "evil" differently, it's different for everybody.... I base my thoughts of what's right or wrong on karma. One could say that "good and bad" are universal, but, for example, someone with a severe case schizophrenia that murders people might believe that they're doing a good thing by "getting rid of bad people" or some crazy shit, just as someone that is raised in a shitty environment might believe that everything they do is wrong. Maybe it's all just aligned with how someone "feels" about what is right or wrong. You're right though, if people hadn't evolved the way they have, then there probably wouldn't be a "good or evil" to label our actions with.

You really don't have much knowledge of history, huh?

IN BRIEF: Slavery was not an institution created solely out of the idea that black people should be forced to work for white people. Barbary corsairs, who were the ones who "forcibly" too slaves, took people of every skin color and nationality - they didn't give a shit.

The black slaves who were brought to England and America were sold to the British by their own tribal elders. That's right, the only real reason black slavery was so widespread is because their own people sold them out. Originally, the tribal chiefs only sold criminals into slavery; when they got greedy and ran out of criminals, they made up new things to be illegal.

I don't trust "books". They have too many "facts".
