MySpace Alternative

I found this site and it has a very dark demeanor, and also actually works instead of crapping out half the time. Take a look at my profile and keep in mind that this is the
default layout.
http://www.darkstarlings.com/display_pr ... name=Bigun
I love the site, about the only things bad about it is that there isn't very many people (which is sometimes a good thing) and also has a
lot of young people.
But trust me, worth checking out if your into meeting other people.
PS - I serached and didn't find where anyone else had suggested this site, sorry if this is a duplicate post

well there was findagoth.com which is pretty lame, and not to disparage you young'ns but us old'ns tend to look for other old'ns. Makes me wonder... the collective age ratio here in Knoxville. Would that qualify us as an old goth's home.

I'm not entirely sure how accuract those are, did you look at the pictures of these people? I'll put a dime no one on there is over the age of 40.

But if I go outside I can't see which dysfunctional carebear you are. And that is crucial in determining who I make relationships with.

As opposed to a forum who's only link to your persona is an avatar (that has a 128x128 pixel limit) and any whimsical replies you may have.

I may be alone on this, but I've found that you learn alot more about a person by reading the posts they make on a forum and actually meeting them than by the results of their "wHaT fLaVoR oF iCe CrEaM R U?" quiz.

Agreed...I usually set people into 2 categories...
Complete fucking morons
and
Complete fuckng idiots.
I leave it up to the person to change my mind...However, most people don't bother to do so...and that's just fine by me...

I agree... that's why I despise MySpace. All you have a a collective goop of stuff about people. The site I have listed has a forum attached along with the
'goop' MySpace offers.

Myspace
has a forum tho I don't go near it. I use MySpace for checking out new bands, which I've seen some quite good ones come down the pike from there. However while this forum is location intensive especially with the scene, most of us tend to meet up at Temple or Sanctus or 11th street to get to know one another. When I first came onto the scene I saw the post about Boomsday at 11th street and went there and started meeting people, then came Sanctus and more 11th street soirees, etc etc. Myspace and its clones are pretty much too general and distant, more impersonal and a bit more dangerous what with the internet stalking that does go about the country. Another thing is that the scene here has a lot of older people (mid 20's+), and while the mallbats and cutters and angsty teenagers are amusing, I'd much rather meet a bit older crowd.

I never knew MySpace had a forum.... but it's prolly just as mindless as the comments left on the profiles.
And I will admit... a *much* younger crowd.... I spend 90% of my time on there handing out advice to them... which I get some gratification out of somehow, Then again I've always gotten along with people that *aren't* my age. Older or younger, I guess if I stick with both I should be alright.
Here is my final opinion of MySpace:

I don't mean for hooking up, I just go on there to talk to people and use their forum.

how exactly does one get cyber-stalked anyway?
I am on myspace but..well i think i am just a sheep and did it cause all the cool kids did..but it -has- been helpful sometimes in messaging people and stuff..so thats ok.
otherwise...neh..im too self-involved to bother with things like 'meeting people' and 'socializing'.
i was uh..just kidding there..

Hey I resent that comment fuckers!
As for the young people on MySpace I would sure like to meet some...every fucking message I get is from some 32 year old guy with no job living at his mom's asking if I want to go get Waffle house at 4 am...CHRIST!

well, first you piss off a geek. then they write some code, code that discovers your IP address (i'm not going into detail on how to do this as
THEY might be reading this). then said geek does some detective work and figures out what city/state/country that IP belongs to.
then they read all of your posts, and run them through google. if you're online a lot, they'll find things. remember, while you might get your kicks out of getting 8 to 10 hours of sleep at night, your average angsty geek lives and breathes caffiene. they can go weeks at a time without sleep, and only suffer mild hallucinations - most of which they experience anyway.
sometimes the things they find lead to discovering your real name, address, and/or phone #, all of which can further lead to them finding out even more about you.
then, depending on how desperate / insane the person is, they either dismiss you as too much gas money to waste on, or follow you everywhere and eventually kill and eat your favorite chia pet, or maybe just sacrifice your first born to heathen gods a talentless writer developed and published a series about during a 'dry phase'.
of course, if it's a geek with a sense of humor, they'll just wait until you're on vacation, tie a decapitated barbie doll to a bag of shit, place it on your bed, and set it on fire.
