BLACK COFFEE HOUR: The Refill

It's true - 11th St. (whatever its new name) will be opening under new management a week from Friday night. The new owners, Rita and (forgot name), will have Loretta as a co-owner/silent partner for a year, then it will pass completely to them. The new business will be more on the cafe side with a much bigger menu as well as full coffee service.
So, I guess The Black Coffee Hour is on: Friday, August 19th, 8 pm.
The front room is repainted a dark blood red, and the art is either black/white/red modern or Adam Deal-ish, so I guess we'll fit right in.
Welcome Home Again

A few nights ago I had a dream about being at 11th St. again, and in the dream were all the intense memories from 10 years, compressed into one extreme and passionate illusion which seemed so real and evoked such emotion, that I wrote a few notes for an essay entitled “Requiem for The Eleventh St. Expresso House.â€

Actually a few days ago I was reliving some old 11th street memories. I guess I started going there something like 9 years ago...my mom met her husband and got married there (as scorptrio knows) and I've met more than one boyfriend there. In the summer time I miss it so much more, just sitting there drinking and bullshitting on the porch or the feeling that if I'm bored, I can always drop by there and see whats going on. It was for so long the place "where everyone knows your name." I hated that I felt the need to boycott it and I'm not sure now if I should support it, but I'm happy that it is at least goiing to be SOMETHING instead of just sitting closed. That place should always be a place where people can gather and make friends, even if I can't participate because of personal views toward whose behaviors my dollar may support. I hope it is successful.

I'm looking forward to everything getting settled again. I miss my office/living room/headquarters.

Very groovy indeed! I hope someone has repaired the weak spots in the floor & porch. The building seemed so fragile the last time I was there.

Hrm, this sounds neat, I've been looking for a good coffeehouse ever since I moved to Knoxville without much luck, and it sounds like this place is/was a great one. How can I find it?

All right-brain musings aside, if The Eleventh St. Expresso house is to survive and stay open, they will need steady income. I know that the patronage of the “goth sceneâ€

I just drove by it and saw people fiddling around with the porch. I wondered if it was re-opening. Question answered!
But, the thing is, as a coffee shop, it's just not going to compete with Old City Java, because a coffee shop makes most of its money on highschool and college kids, and the kids aren't going to leave Java.
Now, if 11th Street started having bands play out back, that would be a different story.
