SELKIE LOVER

In Welsh mythology, the Selkies are magical beings who are seals, but during the full moon, they may shed their skins and walk on land as men. Legend has it that a lonely maid may sit by the water's edge and if she weeps seven tears into the ocean, the mingling of her salt with the ocean's brine will call a Selkie lover to her side for a night of love.

MY SELKIE LOVER

he came

like an ocean wave at high tide
in an feverishurgentcantering crest
his fury broke upon my white cliffs

he moved me

with the haunting rhapsody-echo of his roaring heart
of the blood pounding surf surrounding
my dizzying height
against his fathomless depth

the moon as my witness
his laughter was unearthly
with its wild sacrifice
to my stone frail alter

i could not hold him

he ebbed through my very skin
breaking beading droplets
into a thousand glittering rivulets
racing once more out to sea

leaving me wondrously wet
upon the sand

I think I'm in love.....I know, it's a four letter word that I have lost faith in, but DAMN I like your style! This just flowed like blood at a slaughter, it really had good word usage and phrasing. Why haven't I heard of you before? Where on earth did you COME from? Yours truly....Aerick

Thank you Aerick of the Dark Heart

I value your comments. Unlike you, I have kept my poems mostly to myself. SELKIE LOVER was started a very long time ago, and rewritten and evolved. This is its most recent form (as of a few nights ago). Posting on the web is a very new idea for me. As to where did I come from?? You will have to step to the back of the line, sir...
