M-aggots are M-azing!

From WTAE TV:

BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Two Boca Raton sisters said they bit into some candy bars this week and surprisingly got a good dose of protein. They said they were trying out the new candy called M-azing, but ended up getting maggots.

Monica Castanheeira said she bought some M-azing chocolate bars Tuesday night to enjoy while watching videos with her sister, Renee, and her 4-year-old neice.

Castanheeira said she took a big bite and then felt something moving in her mouth.

"I look on the table and on the chocolate, and there's a maggot walking around," she said. "It's really disgusting."

The sisters said they found maggots in each of their chocolate bars. They said they found some that were very small and crawling and others had yet to hatch.

The sisters are so sickened, they went to the emergency room. They said the child is convinced there are bugs walking around in her stomach.

"We're investigating, obviously," said Master Foods USA, the producer of the chocolate. "And we're really sorry. Maggots are a result of fly larvae and could happen in a matter of days after our products have left our factories."

"When I think about it, I still feel it on my tongue," Castanheeira said. "I can't eat chocolate no more."

Castanheeira said she bought the candy at a Shell gas station. She said all the candy is off the shelves because she went back and bought it all to see if it was infested.

A state health investigator has been assigned to the case and will check out the candy bars as well.

I smell B.S. Who would really go back to the store and buy all of the maggoty chocolate "to investigate"? And did she do this before or after she had to go to the emergency room? *cough*scam*cough*

Where did you find this? I also find it hard to believe that maggot's can even eat chocolate. I'll check it out.

*EDIT*

http://www.themightygeek.com/mtarchives/000405.php

Apperantly they can. It's more commonly found in hot chocolate it seems.

*Runs off to check snopes*

No reference of it on Snopes... either it's true or a brand new urban legend.

Maggots will eat just about anything. Meat, rice, cheese, anything that's edible. It doesn't have to be rotting.

Aww, maggots get no respect.

They help break down dead stuff so its not sitting around for a long ass time and they help give us estimates of time since death and other useful things.

What's a little extra protein, I mean, geez....

Perhaps its the association with slipknot that makes people hate them so....

I think it's funny that people get all up in arms about things like this...On average...There are up to three cockroach eggs...Or one rat hair in every ounce of chocolate...So...maggots in chocolate...Shocker!...Russo...You're probably right...Scam!

I am such a chocoholic I would probably eat chocolate covered maggots. I usually go for the good stuff, however. I'm on a first name basis with most of the staff at Godiva, except for the one little hairy guy who just calls me "Raspberry Truffle". Sad, but true.

Moreso than anything you'll find the eggs, and not anything alive inside of chocolate. Usually the ones with nuts. However, none of this keeps me from frequenting the Godiva store to satisfy my chocolate cravings.

Let's not forget about the times when pizza hut cooks a cockroach into your pizza. YUMMM~MMY! :-?

Those are made in Cleveland iirc. The M&M plant is there so it only makes sense that the AMazings are made there.

And like most consumer food producing plants that place is super clean. And I really really doubt that would get out the door with maggots in it.

I've got a buddy that works at Little Debbie and they threw away 4 days worth of product cause they found glass in one package of food. So I'd guess that Masterfoods would do the same thing. Maybe not 4 days worth of product but a lot of stuff.

But then again stuff like that happens. A can full of food grade grease occasionally gets out the door at Coke or Pepsi in Chattanooga. You can drink / eat it but it'll give you one hell of a tummy ache.

But I think this is along hte lines of the thumb in the chili, I just wanna know where the thumb came from.

My sister found some kind of worms inside of a Heath bar once. It was pretty nasty. The end.
