caught this stylish thriller at downtown west last night. a Sundance darling from last year it stars Christian Bale and is directed by Brad Anderson(Session 9).
story centers around Trevor Reznick(Bale)a machinist who is suffering from insomnia and hasn't slept in a year.Add to that a co-worker who may or may not exsist,an accident at the plant, and mysterious post-it notes and things really begin to spiral in this gloomy and dark atmosphric masterpiece.I really felt at times I was watching something by Roger Corman or Hitchcock,w/ music by Hermann(Psycho, etc.)
I'd like to touch on Bale's(Am. Psycho) performance which is incredible and is one of the best of the year. It's a shame he hasn't received more credit than he has(not that I'm surprised w/ holywood). He lost a record 63 pounds and at times I felt myself disgusted w/ him as much a I was entralled w/ his performance (which i feel no could else could pull off).
4/5
