Just a lil' pondering & such on the originz ov the word "horny" (n reference 2 the vulgar slang 4 sexual arousal)...

I would guess that it stemz from the lusty Satyrz, such az Pan, or the Horned God, Cernunnous, & their Christian bastardized ncorporation n2 "Satan" or "the Devil" n all ov hiz naughtiness ...

4 me, however, it holdz tru 4 the musical nstrumentz az well. There r verrry few soundz with the power ov a smooth saxophone or clarinet 2 steam me up with such eaze & reliability ... Hmmm, also rel8ed 2 the Pan flute, perhapz?

Not to be a band geek or anything, but saxophones, clarinets, and flutes are all woodwind instruments, not horns. If the term was related to the sound of an instrument, we'd all be "woody" or "windy" instead of "horny." But I think you're on track with the horned god thing.

Funny, I always thought that it had something to do with either impaling, or being impaled, depending on who's on the receiving end.

But hey, that could just be me.

Well Jack, not to burst your bubble but you should have researched a bit more before quoting Cecil Adams. I lived in Europe for quite a few years and can tell you that is B.S. They are just as horny as we are. Cheating around on your spouse is fremndgänger. Well anywho the word actually originated in the 18th century due to the fact that an erection was called a horn because it simply looked like one. Ater that ppl began saying he is horny meaning that he is wanting or shall we say desiring to use his horn.

Yup, it's the horn in his pants that gives us the term. Also, folks have thought for thousands of years that ingesting or using rhino horn is a major aphrodisiac. If you can't get horny enough on your own, try a little rhino horn! Ancient man's viagra!
