Johnny Carson died today at the age of 79.

For both littleseeker and I, The Tonight Show was the first show we were ever allowed to stay up late and watch. Hard to believe he retired 13 years ago, it seems like yesterday.

'The Tonight Show' went to hell when he retired, IMO.

NBC confirmed the death on its Website. His nephew, Jeff Sotzing, told the Associated Press, "Mr. Carson passed away peacefully early Sunday morning. He was surrounded by his family, whose loss will be immeasurable. There will be no memorial service."

Sotzing did not disclose any further details, including time of death, where Carson died or the exact cause of death.

Since Johhny had a quadruple bypass in 1999 I would say it was heart faiure.

I remember sitting up with my grandparents when I was a little girl watching him...and adoring the man.

Good night Johnny...you're going to be missed.
