Good Lord, people. It is ILLEGAL to threaten the President's life. Period. Calling for a President's death is not proteced by Free Speech no matter what you think of him, which IS protected. She did something incredibly irresponsible (IMHO, rather stupid), and got called on it. It has nothing to do with Bush. Death threats in Clinton's era got Secret Service attention, too. To quote:
"MIDLAND, (AP) - President Clinton received a death threat via e-mail from a Midland High School computer, and it took just five hours for Secret Service agents to track it down.
Now a 17-year-old girl faces charges that can put her behind bars for a year, The Saginaw News reported yesterday.
"Through a number of searches and investigative techniques, we were able to pinpoint the student involved in sending the messages," said Jack Johnson Jr., supervisor of the Secret Service office in Saginaw.
Heidi Sullivan is accused of making three death threats last week, the first from a computer at the Grace A. Dow Memorial Library, the other two from a computer at the high school, Johnson said.
Sullivan was arraigned Wednesday in Midland County District Court on two counts of using a telephone line to make a malicious threat. Each misdemeanor count carries a penalty of six months in jail and a $500 fine. She was released on $5,000 personal recognizance. Officials decided not to charge her with more serious felonies."

Yeah. Clinton's administration had that one tracked in hours. Bush's took days. It would appear that, if anything, Bush needs to tighten his personal security. Even allowing time for the post to be reported and researched, as opposed to directly sent to the White House.
The freedom of speech is not absolute. I.E., you can't yell 'FIRE' in a crowded theater just to watch chaos ensue. Speech which is designed to threaten or harm
anyone is not protected. There's just an organization to deal with people threatening the President and other high ranking public officials. It's been there for quite some time now. You can call the President any name you want, question anything from his policies to his parentage, blame him for every tiny detail that is wrong in your life, call for him to be pulled from office, but you can not call for assassination.
And there I've gone and posted about politics again. Damn you people. I only discuss politics with family when directly asked, and then I say as little as possible. Gah. Rant amongst yourselves, I'm going to bed.
