I have been searching every available source for decorations and ideas this year. Is anyone else feeling this over the top urge to decorate this year?

I've been trying to get the kids to start decorating for a week or 2 now, but Snap wants to wait until it's actually October. Tom & I are more into the decorations all year long, though. I've been walking aroung singing "This is Halloween" for a while now!

My ideas: (not my practices, as I don't have my own house...)

All year round for subtle decorations, like pretty wrought iron things, candles, lace, etc. Basically anything that would otherwise be normal, except that it perhaps has witches or spiderwebs on it. Come on, you're goth, you can get away with it. But anything that says "Happy Halloween" in an obvious place is out.

Natural decorations such as pumpkins (not carved), hay bales, and gourds all through fall. Scarecrows too, but not if they're scary.

Wait for October for decidedly Halloween, more attention-grabbing things. Jack-O-Lanterns, cemetaries, fake spiderwebs, dead people on the porch swing. No limits on this- once it's October, go for it!

Shit, yo.

I got my Halloween shit out last week.

I think it should last at least two months. I mean, if they can already be selling Xmas crap...we can decorate with Halloween stuff.

I have a lot more this year because I went out and shopped myself silly on the day after sales at Target, Michaels, JoAnn etc, and Hallmark...

I, personally, never decorate specifically for Halloween because I'm never in town for it. I do, however, look for things around Halloween time to use as decorations for all year long. I've found some great candle holders this year.

On the other hand, I enjoy decorating other people's places that will be around to enjoy it. I have purchased quite a bit of the fake spiderweb in order to leave one of my coworker's office appropriately decorated before I take my week and a half vacation to NOLA. Now, the humorous part will be what my office looks like when I come back. Gotta love practical jokes in the workplace!

I went to Target the other day to look at Halloween decorations, turned to the next aisle and there sat Santa Claus and reindeer for sale already. It was kind of sad.

I go by the standard Oct. 1-31, Halloween; Nov.1 - Day after Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving; then Christmas, if you do that, until New Year's Day.

I've got to agree with Shadow Dancer - My "Halloween" purchases are out all year. Halloween is a great time to just add stuff to the general decor. If you can hold out, buy things just a few days before or after for the best discounts.

Super Target in Turkey Creek has some very nice Halloween items that are tasteful enough for general home decor.

muahaha!

Now that you and Anoki are engaged, "owning the pink" shouldn't be much of a problem for you...

*bites tongue really hard* (too late, obviously)

I find that a little well placed fake blood (karo surup, 2 parts red foood coloring and 1 part blue if making it at home) and a loud blood cruddling sceam can make anyone white as a ghost. Once I stabbed a bag of it under my shirt and made a crowd of frat daddys freak the fuck out.

I suppose that depends...

Interior, or exterior?

For interior, I say 365 days. Especially the glow in the dark shit. That helps me find my way to the bathroom when I'm a little bit woozy, ya know?

Exterior? Well, all the cool Halloween decor I've seen are too cool for me to leave unattended at my apartment, so that really doesn't matter.

Honestly, though, I think that if it's disturbing enough to be put out there, it deserves to be left out there.
