Dad Charged After 2-Year-Old Gets Shitfaced

News Edition: 09/17/2004

FAIRFIELD, N.Y.-- A central New York man faces child endangerment charges after his 2-year-old daughter got drunk.
State police said the girl was treated Sunday at a hospital for a blood alcohol level of -- nearly twice the legal limit for an adult.

Troopers said Eric Carney was at a friend's house when he gave his daughter a taste of beer. He said she probably drank more on her own while he wasn't looking.

When he returned the toddler to her mother, she noticed that something was wrong. She took the girl to Little Falls Hospital, where doctors determined the child was intoxicated.

The girl was treated and released into the care of her mother.

Troopers said an order of protection has been issued against Carney to keep him away from his daughter.

how many parents have been known for giving their children small doses of alcohol to encourage them to fall asleep... i think plenty... not to mention, overseas they don't think of alcohol the same way we do... not that i'm in any way condoning what was done, just pointing this fact out

i think anyone who is bright enough to leave alcohol setting out where small children are, especially after letting them taste it and basically giving the signal that it's ok to enjoy, they deserve what they get.

That was kinda funny, but very disturbing.

Guys can be so stupid.

Well okay. I guess people in general can be so stupid, not just the guys.

That is awful. Glad he got served with an order of protection. He's lucky the child didn't die.

I supposedly used to sneak up behind my dads chair and swig his beer, but they actually kept close enough of an eye on me that they noticed what I was doing.

And yes, I know that europeans give their children such things as "gripe water" and that lots of cold medicines knock kids out, but those are administered in much safer ways...its not like they are putting nipples on fifths or anything..

the breast does give a bit of whatever the mother drinks, I was breast fed and my mom warned me about it when I had my daughter. I was very true that she slept longer when I had a glass of wine, but I was always careful to have a few bottles worth saved if I planned to drink much.
