I bought a purty orchid today..but I've heard they are uber finicky...any tips?

buy orchid food!!!
put it in a window where it gets plenty light but not direct.
make frequent sacrifices to it.

uh-oh. You need to be careful. Orchid growing is apparently something that can become obsessive. It's called <i>Orchidelirium</i>, and, no, I am not making this up.

There's a book called The Orchid Thief that is supposed to be really good. I haven't read it, but there was all this buzz about it when it came out. There was even talk of a movie. NPR did like a bazillion segments on the book and on orchid growers in general. They all seemed a bit... odd. You should fit right in.

My mom has one of those nice, oval shaped bath tubs, with the wide ledge around it. She has kept orchids there, since there is also a skylight there. She says they need the humidity from the tub area.

Yeah. Since Buttercup is just a dirty hippy who never bathes anyway, she can keep them in her shower

I am sadly...a compulsive daily showerer...in the summer, sometimes 2 or 3....

I got a book on orchids. I will still kill it though...believe you me. But apparently they do like heat and humidity....and there are a scary amount of books on them...
