Over 3,500 gay marriages and, what, no hellfire? I was promised hellfire. And riots. What gives?

A rant speech true, but like in most rants, he brings up some good points. Most of the objections I have seen or heard raised all stem from religious stances...But my feeling is that those are smoke screens. It's what gets people emotionally stirred up and outspoken, but it masks the REAL reason "certain people" want this nipped in the bud.

If gay unions (or marriages) are awarded the same rights as hetero married couples, that brings into play a whole new batch of people that will receive insurance benefits, create inheritance issues and healtcare issues.

I was promised an apocalypse, dammit. What am I supposed to do with all these tubs of margarine and confetti and kazoos?

yeah, the city hall here in San Fran is rife with religious picketers with the 'The End is Nigh' motif going, but there's lots of cheers and positive hooplah when a new couple hits the steps. Right now, another city in New York has started the gay marriage license thing, and Santa Cruz and San Jose here are trying to get gay marriage into their city charters! It's a chain reaction, and I'm sure it's to put a dent in the Bush campaign.

But you know how people go, it'll likely also get people off the couch to vote republican.

Post pictures.
Better, make some outrageous protest sign with hidden messages and see if you can get it on the news. Hmmm, maybe quoting that passage about multiple concubines - make a sign demanding that and protest with the anti-Marriage Equity group outside the courthouse. Then post *those* pictures.

Hehe. Gnomes. Protesting Lawn Gnomes.
