Television's Captain Kangaroo, Bob Keeshan, died Friday morning in Vermont. He was 76. He died after a long illness, his family told The Associated Press.
Yet another great loss of my childhood heros
Are there ping pong balls in heaven?

The kids who grew up after the Captain went off the air have no idea how much they have missed.
You know...If you believe in the afterlife in whatever form, You gotta believe there are a lot of happy kids there being entertained by Captain Kangaroo, Jim Henson , and Mr Rogers. I can't wait til the day I can sit in the audience of that show.

I even had a Bunny stuffie when I was a wee little lad. Never had a Mr. Moose though. Remember Mr. Green Jeans, Mr Bainter the Painter, Dennis, Grandfather Clock and Owl? I learned what a blue-screen effect was from watching that show. Kids today with their Power Rangers.... bah!

I remember in 1st grade watching "Wake Up" with the Capt. every morning. Then going to school, & for show & tell, I would tell jokes I heard from the show!

To bad my kids won't experience Captain Kangaroo & the gang.

OK, reading this thread, a jingle started playing in my head...
"Good morning Captian, it's a shining song we sing, cause we're happy to see you and the good times that you bring."
It's good to see that the old memory banks haven't become fragmented after all this time.

My sister once had the honor of meeting Captian Kangaroo, and she said he was a very nice man. I remember when I was in the third grade I saw on the new he had had a heart attack, and I prayed he'd make it. It was the first person I ever remember praying for that I didn't know personally. I do believe there a ping pong balls in heaven. He has Mr. Green Jeans for company as well.
