I have been gone for awhile (on dial-up) and I have noticed that this troll thing has starting to take the place of the regulatory drama on this board. I have read most of the threads from my absence and they all contain a troll being pissy and people lashing out then a ban. What is the deal? Are they growing them in factory vats or something now? Who is telling all these highschool kids about the site? Why can't they get a life and just communicate like the web is used for? The web is for porn and information gathering, not for being an ass. WTF!

But the internet has been used for being an ass since its creation.

Call me a puritan if you will but I beleive that the internet's intent was to be a sorce of information and communication. The porn was a happy bonus, but what I don't need is little kids with too much time on their hands trying to be all macho big shot assholes. To hide behind a screen and talk big is like taugnting a convict behind bars, (eventually they get out kiddies). Most of these trolls I bet aren't even old enough to come out to the bars and see what the knoxville goth scene is really like. I think of knoxgoth as my family, not just a site and some club nights. You have to hang out with the people in the scene before you start making enemies out of them.

Hey Merc! Long time no hear. Glad to see ya back. I think that you hit on what really started to bother me about trolls here getting offended that we were offended. Guys, take note. If you have a family member that's an asshole, you tolerate her becasuse she's family. Hell, you might even look forward to her coming around because she's such an asshole and you love to see the shitstorm she inevitably stirs up! Regardless, she's family and everyone knows that is just how she is.

But when a newcomer comes in and they act up - Maybe no worse than that asshole familymember we know and love - we take issue with them. Why? i dont know why people feed the trolls.. ive been asking that for a while with no answer... some of the trolls even subscribe to my blog and aim me now for some reason... i guess my ability to make the dumbest and/or worst possible element of people on earth follow me or something... but at any rate... i dont know. people get their panties in a wad to easy these days. i generally try to agitate that type of person as bad as i can, i just use my brain instead of trolling to do it...

I've pondered about this for some time. A great deal of time, in fact.

And I've come to the following conclusions:

Trolls will come, and trolls will go. Fuck 'em. They're a momentary glitch in our systems of communication. You run into them in face-to-face situations, you encounter them on message boards, IRC (Internet Relay Chat), on instant messaging networks, and any number of other mediums. While going about the intellectual equivalent of knee-capping the bastards is quite fun for a while, in the end, one is best served by simply saying, as stated aboved, "Fuck 'em."

Secondly, I've discovered that I have far too much free time.
