This one's for a simple afghan, more textural than visual. And very warm and snugglerific...

You'll need:
About 10 skeins of Lion Brand Homespun, I chose "Gothic" but any color will do just fine
    Size 13 needles
    Yarn needle
A hell of a lot of time, lol

Cast on 30 stitches in whatever manner you prefer. Knit in garter stitch (all knit) until piece reaches 11 inches. It should make a square.
OK, got the square? Good, 'cuz you need to do 19 more. Hop to it! lol
After all 20 sqares are done, begin stitching them to gether using the yarn and yarn needle, in a 4x5 square pattern. Alternate the directions of the squares, so the stitches of one are perpendicular to the next, creating a "basketweave" appearance. (It's a very subtle look.)
Your finished afghan should be about 44" by 55", a generous size compared to the throws they sell in stores, and much warmer and snugglier as well.
